What are the key steps for integrating blockchain with other technologies?

In my experience, before deciding which blockchain ecosystem might be best for your project, it is first important to understand the benefits of using blockchain. How will the tech increase your competitive advantage, increase revenue, and deliver an ROI. Next, it is critical to map out all workflows, product interactions, and integration points. Before integrating blockchain with other technologies it is critical to realize that blockchain is not a generic stack. There are many different types of blockchain ecosystems. Foundational blockchains, known as Layer 1s (L1s), come in 2 broad categories – permissioned and permissionless. As we discuss in our book, Enterprise Blockchain Has Arrived (2019), choose the right tech for your use case.

One key concept for the use of blockchain technologies is decentralization. If the discussed utility of a project is highlighting the dependence towards a central entity, then there is generally better solutions in web2. There are many other design considerations but none will be important if your infrastructure is hacked! To reduce the risk of hacking, it is very important to focus on using a zero-trust architecture plus all the advantages of decentralization. Having a well-documented + enforced security & privacy policy is key. Employ strong encryption, multifactor authentication (MFA), and if appropriate multi-sig wallets, secure multi-party computation (MPC), role separation, AI-based endpoint and zone monitoring, and other best practices.

To a certain extent the exchange issues have always occurred as there as a new bit of pipe trying to sit alongside existing infrastructure. Blockchain is tailor made to deliver a multiverse web3 ideal, new pipe for a new system.

Consider aspects like verifiability and traceability. Find your business case, decide what fits the blockchain, and integration isn't as complex as it sounds. If it's customer-facing, ensure consumers can navigate it, but there are user-friendly tools to help. Challenges can be simplified with user-friendly blockchain tech or by keeping complexity hidden. It's a strategic game more than a technical one. What's vital? A team that understands both the blockchain industry (Web3) and traditional business (Web2) can bridge the gap. Hardcore blockchain experts may overlook user practicality, while traditionalists may struggle in the blockchain world. It's about finding that perfect hybrid approach for a seamless journey.
