What are the most common mistakes when managing conflicts in a team?

Turning a blind eye to a conflict within a team is one of the biggest mistakes a Manager can make. As a Manager, it is your responsibility to ensure that the workplace is psychologically safe for everyone. If unaddressed, a conflict within a team can create disharmony, lack of trust and support amongst team members. This lack of team cohesion can be detrimental not just for the team, but also for the department and the business all together. It would be beneficial if Managers are trained to handle conflicts so they can utilize the optimum conflict resolution strategy of collaborating instead of avoiding or competing. This can help provide a win-win solution to team members in disagreement.

Konflikte sollten immer zeitnah und idealerweise mit allen Beteiligten in einem Raum (wenn es nicht anders geht einem virtuellem Raum) angegangen werden. Man sollte dabei herausarbeiten können um welche Art von Konflikten es sich handelt. Rollen und Zielkonflikte sind meist nur schwer von den Teammitgliedern selbst zu lösen, da das Rahmenkonstrukt betreffen, welches typischerweise durch die Führungskraft vorgegeben ist. Persönliche Konflikte können nur von den beteiligten Personen gelöst werden, hier kommt der Führungskraft maximal die Rolle des neutralen Mediators zu.

Si conoces con quien estas laborando sientes en automático en cuando existe algún conflicto, se nota, el comportamiento cambia. Requieres actuar en el momento y no esperar a una oportunidad, si quieres esperar, déjame decirte que este conflicto se puede hacer mucho mas grande que tu piensas desde antes. Para resolver algún conflicto requiere siempre estar neutral, en que manera, en la que sea. Déjame decirte, lo tengo todavia muy claro en mi mente, de unas semanas antes, mi esposa tenia una fuerte discusión con una hermana, mi esposa tambien es Coach y lo quiere mucho a su hermano. Su hermana tenia conflictos con otros dos hermanos. Llegue el momento que su hermano me pedi apoyo y lo dije a ella que no voy a tomar partido para nadie de los dos que no es mi problema. Pero por donde quiere ir, hay que ser neutral en absoluto en cuando escuchas dos versiones, ni te conviertes a un juez, porque cada partido cuenta su verdad. Recuerda, cada humano tiene su propia verdad. Entonces , toma tu posición neutral y escucha.

Taking sides during a conflict is a mistake that I have seen some people do , well this just makes the conflict worse if you look at the whole conflict and the impact ! Best thing to do is analyse the situation and give an opinion which matters so to some extent the conflict can be resloved !

La comunicación es siempre la mejor manera, requieres involucrar a las personas, hacer sentir que son parte del todo. No puedes quedarte mudo, tomas decisiones y no lo comunicas. Involucrar a las personas es esencial. Imaginaste tu estas del otro lado, como te sientes en el momento, que a ti no te consideran o ni te comunican nada, ni sabes que hacer pero te piden resultados. Más importante es el dialogo, la comunicación clara y asertiva, no dejas a nadie a un lado, tu tampoco quieres que te dejen a un lado.

La retroalimentación o el feedback es una cosa de las más importantes, te hace crecer. Es la manera en como das a las personas la Retroalimentación, es nada de malo es un enorme concepto que se aplica en todos los aspectos de tu vida, no solo en tu vida profesional, tambien en tu vida personal. La retroalimentación ayuda a crecer, te hace visible que en el punto de vista de otros no esta funcionando y que si esta funcionando, es un enorme apoyo para las personas, por eso hay que trabajar con la Retroalimentación.

Es un error grave en que olvides los conflictos de las personas, requieres estar al pendiente. No confías en que platicaste con las personas y el problema o sus problemas y piensas ya se resolvió todo. No confías que si se resuelve así, requieres estar al pendiente y seguir con la comunicación. El cerebro humano funciona diferente de cerebro a cerebro. No todos piensan como tu, entonces te invita a la comunicación, no olvides que no hacia, todavía hay un conflicto y si hay que comunicar con las personas hasta que estes seguro el conflicto se resolvió en su totalidad.

There is nothing as mistakes in life because this word can trap you in guilt. This is the first mindset shift secondly there are unconscious actions that happened and in case you replace it with conscious act the result will be completely different. Acting consciously helps you to be aware of the impacts and risks but don’t get entangled with the fact that you did it or it was done by you. Instead be with the process and whatever is required to be done gets done. Once you have not identified yourself with you contribution it’s only about being with the process. This is a way to be focused on the goal or objective and not get too attached with your contributions.

You should always understand the level of conflict you are dealing with. Your peers can be gone to deep in emotion causing state of affect, means nobody will talk rational. It’s fight, freeze or flight mode that you should recognize first. Say it load to your peers, don’t tell anyone to calm down - it can cause explosion. Tell them you hear them, you see them, you acknowledge voice change, observe emotions. Let them speak first, tell What is the root cause of such drastic changes. Then tell them you want to get through together. Talk situation to state where you all are against problem, not against each other, cuz it is truly so.
