The lessons we learned were inline with what's said here. Know your tech before choosing anything. Plan it out end to end as well as you can. And for the love of all that's good, hire someone who does this work. Don't put this off on QA alone.

For us, we had to remember that we were commenting on peoples code. So we didn't want to be too harsh as we might not have understood why they made a change that we were checking on the logs. I think the best thing we did, was go and talk to the people writing the code before we tested their changes. What were we looking for that they solved, how did they do it? Was it SOP, if not why?

Nothing gamers like more than to rail on net code. Even if that's not the issue, it's a good term to bounce around easily.
