Recognition matters always! Event professionals are some of the hardest working people I know. Typically that hard work goes unrecognized. Recognition is essential to boost morale, keep teams motivated and making them feel appreciated.

For me every month, it is important to go through the projects that has been done and measure the effectiveness, and evaluating what went wrong or what was done right. The key is to always celebrate every victory together as a team, and stick together as a team during challenging times. Understanding each individual is important, so apart from a group setting it is also vital to have 1 on 1 conversations. Some individuals like it better when it's a group, some like it better when it's more personal.

1) Try to constantly come up with new ideas and jot all of them down in your notebook. This makes it easier for you to revise your ideas from time to time notably when having a feasibility check. 2) Obtain feedback from fellow employees mainly on their preference (e.g. Short trip). 3) Create a fair point-based reward system where everyone gain points for each milestone attained and use those accumulated points to claim their mystery gift which is of higher value as more target is hit along the way.

When Event management is a small vertical of a big company then it becomes challenging to fulfill everyone's needs. Then a simple recognition in the form of a text message or a certificate of appreciation can go a long way! Sometimes when you provide the organisation with crazy results and the budget increases then you can always give a treat to your team! They would be more than happy.

Making rewards part of the culture you curate as a leader is key. Team members should come to understnad that rewards for their efforts will be concitently recognized. I like having a slack channel where efforts are shared by team members (nominating another team member). On a monthly or quarterly meeting add all those names recognized in the channel to a hat and pull out as many as you can afford to incentivize (say $50 gift cards for the first 3 or 4 names pulled out).
