I remember in my early days of public speaking I would keep talking without drawing breathe. I recall watching a recording of myself speaking and I could see how anxious I was. I was talking at speed, trying to get everything out at once, as if I was running out of time. I learnt then the power of pausing, taking a breathe, pacing myself. Immediately I saw the difference in my speaking and how other people experienced me as well. Even if you need to stop to take a sip of water, do it. I do not want anyone to feel anxious listening to me, it ends up being a distraction and the content I share is not received.
