What are some alternative ways to network without using social media?

Pick up the phone and call people you already network with. Ask how they are. Ask what they're working on. Tell them what you're working on. Ask if they've met anyone interesting lately. Invite your friend to lunch or for a drink and ask them to invite someone.

Live networking events can be hit or miss. What I have found is that most who go to these events just kind of hang out with people they know or their coworkers. To get value, you need to work the room. Connect with people you don't know. Be creative in your approach, and don't be creepy, lol.

Join the local Chamber of Commerce, There is BNI, and many other events if we want to develop a deeper connection a face to face conversation staring someone in their eyes will be more valuable than 10 virtual zoom calls. That’s just the realty of real life connection.

Attending events for learning is interesting. Attending events for sharing is important. Creating events for others to learn and share is a result of hard work and dedication. It is something that everyone can and should do. It’s like organizing a Christmas party and talking about the past year and plans for the upcoming year. It's something that's hard to do but leaves a lot of good and practical memories, even if you’re small in the events with a couple of partners

Without a doubt, professional organizations can be extremely valuable. Your participation will create a solid network within your industry, but also expose you to new opportunities and people when you need it. Another great thing these organizations offer is their keynote or webinar opportunities. There are ways you can volunteer to contribute or speak for a few minutes during these events. It brings credibility to your work and highlights your expertise.

There is some value to joining a professional network. Again, these are hit or miss. I have tried this route but have not had much success. It is probably more my fault than anything else. You need to be committed to these groups to get actual value.

I've had the chance to interact with amazing people from all over—Paris, Venezuela, Brazil, the UK, USA, India, China, you name it. Time-tested practices endure, and it becomes essential for clients to witness our work yielding success for their business 3-5 years down the line. That's why organizing events and showcasing past successful experiences becomes crucial.

I’m more about relationship building and the best way I can do that is not just being aware of who is around me in spontaneous situations but also creating an opportunity for right types to find me. I have an interview podcast I’ve been doing for years. Started as an online magazine but has evolved into a video podcast. Helps me attract types I want in my network and begins the relationship development through casual non-scripted interviews. I’ve met some phenomenal people that way. Many became clients and all are curated into my community for business development purposes. I even have past guests on as co-hosts which furthers our relationship and adds someone new to their network they wouldn’t have found.

You can build a robust network that extends beyond the digital realm. Remember, the key to successful networking lies in authenticity, genuine connections, and a willingness to explore unconventional avenues for professional growth.

I send hand written notes, cards and post cards to people I’d like to build a relationship with, including people I’ve never actually met in person. It’s always appreciated and definitely makes you memorable.

Networking isn’t THAT different from just being social. My best business partners have all come from spending time with people I like, developing friendships, and eventually if not immediately business is discussed or starts flowing. Just be honestly sincerely social.
