What are some effective ways to design EdTech products for diverse age groups?

During the more than 20 years that I have been designing and creating EdTech products I have learned that before creating the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) we must conduct a thorough study of our audience. To do this we must work hand in hand with a group of potential users from different strata, this in order to determine all the factors that could become a barrier to its use or effective and safe application. Recent studies have shown that in the face of some emerging technologies such as Virtual or Augmented Reality, user groups in the cities responded and had a different perception of the application of these technologies in relation to users in the provinces, who found them more innovative and challenging.

Understanding your audience is crucial in EdTech product creation. Having taught various age groups, I've observed the importance of the user interface (UI) to user experience (UX) continuum. To design an effective EdTech product, it's essential to grasp what resonates with the specific audience. For instance, younger learners may favor a colorful and gamified experience, whereas older learners might lean towards a more subtle and mature interface.

We should use transmedia in the learning objects. Also gamify using student based lessons. Focus on the demographics and cultural background to tailor a learning experience

Bloom's Revised Taxonomy and Webb's Depth of Knowledge are two great frameworks to optimize and plan learning. (You'd probably want to work in just one, not both.) Both focus on complexity of thinking and cognitive demand, and as such are helpful in planning to target different cognitive levels. Bloom's differentiates ways of thinking (e.g. analysis vs evaluation) and ways of knowing (e.g. procedural knowledge vs. conceptual knowledge). Webb's evaluates cognitive demand (e.g. level 2 tasks entail skills and concepts, while level 3 tasks entail strategic thinking). Both have associated verbs that, while not necessarily part of the original frameworks, can inform your educational objectives and assessments.

In order for your e-learning environment to be adapted to learners of different ages, it seems to me that you need to adopt a single overall structure justified by the context, i.e. by the content of the course to be taught and the level of the learners concerned as well as by the educational objectives sought. By offering learners several ways of presenting digital resources, you will provide flexibility, so that they can choose according to their personal preferences, including their age and forms of intelligence.

To suit your needs, a variety of content formats should be designed. For younger users, interactive modules should be created with visual elements, short videos and gamified activities. For older users, they offered more detailed, text-based content, with in-depth analysis and exercises that challenged critical thinking. This allows for greater self-direction and focuses on developing practical skills relevant to their specific roles. The chosen educational platform must achieve personalization, so that each user can choose the format that best suits their learning style and level of experience.

Within a corporate training environment, engagement and feedback should be encouraged by designing an intuitive interface, such as a user-oriented learning center, with clear and accessible course sections. It's important to set learning goals that align with employees' career goals, allowing them to chart their individual progress. Regarding feedback, interaction should be encouraged through forums and live discussion sessions, thus promoting social and collaborative learning.
