What are some smart technology solutions for architectural communication and presentation?

We should keep up with the rapid growth of technology. People will be more engaged when they see how architects care about their own learning and their clients’ satisfaction. Architects who use VR and AR to simulate their designs in the easiest and most user-friendly way possible are more successful than the others.

I was on the design team during the schematic design phase of the Sydney Metro Project and volunteers were engaged to virtually navigate the station layout with VR headsets. These virtual walks helped to test the ease of use of the stations, or if wayfinding signs are legible and easy to spot. Spatial quality and proportion were also surveyed with the VR headsets. In addition, perceptions of safety versus threat were surveyed to ensure a passive safety design was achieved. This approach proved instruments in enabling the team to make design adjustments before it was too late.

I totally agree, it provides a different lens to visualise and present ideas. Several design elements such materials, lighting and spatial experience can be tested in virtual environments before they are implemented in physical spaces.

Alternatively, AR could be used to overlay digital models onto a physical site, allowing clients to see how a building design would fit into its surroundings. At our firm, we recently used VR to create a virtual tour of a new office building design for a client. The client was able to explore the building's interior and exterior in detail, which helped them to better understand the design and provide feedback to our team.

For our recent façade renovation project, we used 3D printing to create life-size detail options for the stone profiles edges. This allowed us and our client to have a better understanding of the proportion and can step back to evaluate the various options at the site. For a residential project, we 3D printed building sections to illustrate how the different double-height spaces in the house are interconnected with each other. This gave our client a more solid understanding of the design compared to reviewing the blueprints alone.

Al utilizar la nube el trabajo queda accesible y oportunamente colaborativo para que los proyectos puedan ser trabajados desde diferentes aplicaciones en paralelo. De esta manera los involucrados logran una comunicación directa y clara de los avances y modificaciones, contribuyendo a la optimización de los recursos.

Em minha equipe utilizamos a nuvem para agilizar a comunicação e apresentação arquitetônica e compartilhamos os projetos dos clientes, permitindo que os envolvidos os acessem, modifique de forma rápida e prática. Reuniões urgentes são realizadas pelo Google Meet, facilitando a resolução de demandas virtualmente, já que todos os arquivos estão na nuvem e isso aumenta nossa produtividade e otimiza o tempo, especialmente porque estamos em cidades diferentes. I think all Architectural CAD software providers are offering cloud based solutions! BIMx, Archicad, Autodesk just the big ones, but being able to share even in real time the plans, models and infos are great advantages. Even MS OneNote is able to transfer in real time, makes it very easy to sketch and explain to colleagues. But do not forget, before these solutions existed people used their mind as an unlimited storage for data recovery. They had in their heads plans, sections, quantities etc.! Braing is the best supercomputer to process drawings, infos and use it for communication!

Sensores de mantenimiento para instalaciones, reconocimiento facial por seguridad, seguimiento del cliente para adecuar la habitación a sus preferencias (cortinas, luz, temperatura)... Hoy día podemos disfrutar de un IoT (domótica) bastante más "asequible". Pero lo que realmente me encantó de ese proyecto fue la capacidad de monitorear en tiempo real las instalaciones. Mantenimientos programados punto por punto. Indicación de errores en cada uno de ellos. Optimización de funcionamiento. Un entorno sensible mejora el tiempo que lo habitamos.

Desde poder utilizar aplicaciones en dispositivos electrónicos que nos permitan tener a la mano paquetes de planos que sería complicado tener en físico, como también comparar planos y detectar discrepancias entre especialidades. El uso de plataformas de multitasking en donde un equipo de trabajo pueda colaborar en tiempo real acelera los procesos, aunado a todo esto, la inteligencia artificial y el machine learning facilita las tareas. La tecnología avanza a grandes pasos y nos está beneficiando a todas las personas, en todos los aspectos.

We can also consider solutions such as real-time architectural visualization of software such as Unreal Engine or Lumion, mixed reality (combination of VR and AR) such as HoloLens. o Magic Leap, parametric modeling tools like Rhino or CATIA, cloud-based project management systems like Asana or JIRA, and online collaboration platforms like Slack or Discord to facilitate communication and collaboration between geographically dispersed teams.
