What are some ways to stay motivated while working towards a promotion?

Ensure that you have at least a Long-Term SMART goal in the form of a vision and an overarching goal to work towards to so that you can always feel like you have a sense of direction. A Mid-Term SMART goal to give yourself that space to breathe, know you're on the right track and to celebrate the mini-victories. And a Short-Term SMART goal to provide yourself a boost of motivation to continue the momentum. Humans thrive on accomplish consecutive small tasks to build up momentum to achieve something great.

Acknowledge and reward yourself for reaching milestones along the way. This will make you positive and boost your confidence and morale. Don't let your pursuit of a promotion consume your life. Make time for your personal well-being, hobbies, and loved ones Remind yourself why you're pursuing this promotion. Is it about career growth, financial stability, or making a bigger impact? Connecting to your purpose can reignite your motivation when things get tough. And, Finally Promotions don't happen overnight. Stay focused, remain resilient, and trust that your hard work will pay off in the long run.

SMART goals channelise your energy and focus on sustained growth and progress. Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time- bound goals provide you with the roadmap clearly defining the destination( long term goals) and milestones ( short term goals ), enabling you to take informed decisions. ▪️S : Be specific in defining your goals ( long and short term). ▪️M: Convert your goals into tangible/ measurable outcomes. Assign criteria for success/ failure evaluation. ▪️A: Break down your goals into smaller /manageable ones to be achievable. ▪️R: Set goals in alignment to the Organisational goals which are relevant towards overall success. ▪️T: Assign deadlines to your goals to avoid procrastination and keep you focused.

Aplicar objetivos #SMART a una estrategia personal es muy importante. La comunicación debe ser muy estratégica y persuasiva y los objetivos deberían seguir la línea de posicionarse como "candidato ideal". Como idea, se podrían incluir metas que tengan que ver con temas de efectividad, logros, capacitación, trabajo en equipo y liderazgo.

Tener objetivos específicos, medibles, alcanzables, retadores y que se tienen que cumplir en un tiempo determinado es clave para asegurar que no perdamos el foco, que estemos productivos realizando actividades para alcanzar estas metas y nos sintamos llenos de entusiasmo. Si bien los ascensos son hitos que nos incentivas a seguir haciendo nuestro trabajo con mucho compromiso, siempre recuerda disfrutar el proceso y que, con o sin ascenso, el trabajo que estás realizando (si es un objetivo SMART) es sumamente enriquecedor.

𝙄 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙄 𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠! (Tough, but necessary) At age 19, while working in a telemarketing call center. I wanted to be a manager soooo bad so I asked my manager for feedback. As I anticipated a well thought out list of tasks.. The only thing she said was: "𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘕𝘖𝘛 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯!" When I tell you the 😠 that engulfed my inner being!!!!! 🤬 I reluctantly said, "thanks you for the feedback." Needless to say, I cried and missed the whole point. But that simple phrase haunted me for 20 yrs until I became a Brand Strategist - "packaging" others & saying it daily. Go figure. 😆 🤣 #beopen

Request Regular Feedback: Actively seek feedback from supervisors or mentors to understand your progress and areas for improvement. For example, ask for performance evaluations or schedule one-on-one meetings to discuss your career development. Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with supportive colleagues or join professional networks to exchange ideas and experiences. Engaging with like-minded individuals can offer encouragement, advice, and fresh perspectives to keep the motivation.

En mi opinión, respecto a esta idea me gustaría subrayar que no solo es importante buscar retroalimentación de nuestro gerente directo, sino también de colegas, mentores, entrenadores y redes externas. Cada fuente puede ofrecer una perspectiva única y valiosa que enriquecerá nuestro crecimiento profesional. Al recibir críticas constructivas, debemos evitar la defensividad y en su lugar, aprovecharlas como oportunidades para aprender y mejorar. Del mismo modo, los elogios deben ser recibidos con gratitud, pero también con humildad, reconociendo que siempre hay espacio para el crecimiento y la mejora.

Acércate a tus supervisores o gerentes para que te conozcan como persona y vean tu interés en mejorar. Se proactivo, en lo personal, esto me ayudó mucho en mi época de trabajar como colaborador. Pide retroalimentación de manera genuina, que tu objetivo sea crecer personalmente, ellos lo notarán y tus probabilidades de ascenso aumentarán.

El feedback es un regalo. Todos tenemos espacios de aprendizaje y zonas ciegas que nosotros no podemos percibir. Por eso se vuelve tan importante la retroalimentación de los demás. Pide feedback no solo de tu jefe, también de tus compañeros de trabajo y las personas que trabajan en tu equipo. Incluso, cada vez que terminas un proceso o proyecto, pide feedback a las personas respecto a competencias que te has dispuesto a adquirir. De esta forma no solo estarás aprendiendo sobre las miradas que tienen los demás de ti, sino que transmitirás una actitud de humildad y enseñarás este comportamiento que es esencial en una cultura que busca el alto rendimiento. Un último sondeo: Recuerda que el feedback es solo una mirada, tú decides que atender.

It can feel very performative, but most importantly, share your learnings when analyzing what went wrong. Not only is it important for self reflection, but it's how those around you see your growth, or learn from your humility. Learning from our mistakes or setbacks is what matters.

Don’t compare your progress to people outside your company, especially based on their social media posts. You can’t know if they are exaggerating or leaving something out of their journey. Keep the focus on bettering yourself.

Learning from your setbacks means performing analysis to improve your rate of change. Improving your rate of change at a higher level than others means you can better adapt to challenges. You need to learn this at an individual level so you can use the same principles with your team. Learning from your setbacks indicates your capability to learn, adapt, and evolve. Perform root cause analysis to get to the cause of missteps. Make sense of reality by categorizing it. Take deliberate steps to align your actions and your team's actions with the organization's vision. Along the way, celebrate wins with your teammates! You can and should analyze missteps even when you succeed. But don't forget to celebrate your wins to keep your morale high!

Balancing celebration with introspection ensures a dynamic learning environment, where both successes and failures contribute to individual and collective development.

C'est important de s'encourager et de reconnaître les petits pas. Le syndrome de l'imposteur aime frapper à la porte et sait se saisir des enfants créatifs et ambitieux. Prendre le temps d'évaluer l'évolution et les briques construites aident à garder la cape et à ne pas perdre de vue là passion et la motivation qui nous anime.

It's going to be tough to stay motivated if you're not going to keep your mind and body in check. Having a 'why' to why you do things is great and all, but ultimately if your body is unable to keep up, it'll all be rendered pointless. So create balance between your work and your physical + mental fitness. Ensure that proper boundaries on work are set in place for you to have a healthy relationship between rest and sacrifice. Also remember to make space for your brain to do a mental audit/unload from the week you've had that's filled with an amalgamation of emotions. When you feel healthy and are able to think healthy, that's when clarity is brought across for you.

Trabajar de manera inteligente implica más que simplemente invertir horas en una tarea. Requiere una comprensión clara de tus prioridades y límites. Al hacerlo, puedes aumentar tu productividad y mantener una motivación constante para alcanzar tus metas profesionales y personales.

El equilibrio es importante en todos los aspectos del ser humano. No intentes parecer un súper héroe, trabaja duro, descansa, has otras actividades recreativas o deportes. En comunicación estratégica, lo importante es la constancia y ser genuino.

Be intentional and be of service — motivation will follow your actions not the other way around. Alignment tends to make everything easier and more efficient which, in turn, keeps you engaged. You may or may not have control over the actual promotion, but you will have control over preparation and perspective.

Aligning your passion and purpose can also help you better understand why you want this particular promotion--is it more responsibility? more pay? more respect? a chance to do something different than whay you're doing now? As you develop a better understanding of why you're looking for a new role, you can work on ways to build some of those into your current job, add a side hustle, or consider roles outside of your current company or team.

Do you need to make enough money to have heat in the house and put food on the table? Absolutely. But aligning your purpose with your passion makes you love your work. And when you love your work, you won't have a choice but to demonstrate how motivated you are! You will inherently share your story because you do what you love. However, finding and pursuing a career that aligns perfectly with your passion and purpose is not always straightforward. It requires introspection to understand what truly motivates you, as well as the courage to pursue opportunities when they might seem risky. But the fulfillment and motivation that come from doing work you love greatly enhance your quality of life and impact in your field.

Two main things: 1) SWOT analysis - Revisit your Strength, Weakness, Threat and Opportunities and set goals to work towards it. 2) Self Branding - "Your work speaks for you" that's an old philosophy, today you also need to position and build a stage for yourself.

Setting clear priorities and boundaries is crucial especially when you are working towards a promotion. At times , it's very easy to get carried away and not set the right expectations from peers which can offset your goals and planning. Make sure to set your project management skills to the best use. Assess and revisit as required to make sure you are on track. Ensuring successful project completion as an individual contributor as well as from a team perspective and making yourself heard at the senior stakeholders level through clear communication is very important.

Consider taking time to reflect and revise, allowing you to return with renewed strength. One effective method I prefer is journaling over a few days, as it helps document both triumphs and setbacks. Additionally, I find that articulating my new strategy in writing enhances clarity and focus.

Acredito que isso foge do campo do trabalho. Se manter motivado para algo que você não tem a mínima certeza de que irá ocorrer é um dos maiores desafios da vida. Neste momento, a minha sugestão é a de se desafiar e colocar metas para você mesmo. Isso vai estimular a buscar algo. Dentro de tudo isso, é manter a fé em algo que você acredita. Seja lá o que for. Desta maneira, acredito que a pulsão de vida se manterá viva de alguma maneira.

Hay algo claro: El único o la única que puede diseñar tu propia carrera eres tú. Independiente de que conozcas tus fortalezas y debilidades, es necesario que tengas un plan. Con un roadmap claro, es más factible que: 1. Puedas identificar qué habilidades y/o conocimientos necesitas aún para llegar a ese siguiente paso en tu carrera laboral. 2. Puedes proponerle a tus líderes un plan establecido para llegar al cargo al que estás aspirando. 3. Puedes identificar si estás en la compañía correcta o si deberías hacer un paso al costado y perseguir otro lugar.

-Avoid unhealthy competition and comparison - Never forget why you chose that path to begin with. Keep making progress, stay motivated.

Don't get sidetracked by the success of others around you. You can easily get discouraged. Focus on your goals. Everything else is noise.

Na minha trajetória, sempre procurei definir metas claras, me manter focado no progresso, buscar feedback regularmente, desenvolver novas habilidades na minha área, buscar mentoria e apoio, e celebrar as conquistas ao longo do caminho. Tudo isso, somado a minha dedicação e disciplina, me ajudou muito no processo.
