What are the steps to create a construction schedule?

Foremost thing is drawing and package study to know what is actually getting build in what quantity and size.... It will help one in understanding the scope, decomposing it into smaller chunks and turning them into work packages

Planning of whole project involve: Clearly define project scope, objectives and its tasks to achieve final product as per clients requirement, starting from; Identify activities Allocate resources (Manpower (well defined roles & responsibilities, Material, Budget) Duration of each activity in accordance with Allocated resources, keeping deadline in mind. Predecessor & Successor Responsibility (Team to perform particular task) Associated risk, and its management Project Controls Project Log/Action Continuous monitoring Project Closure Provision of unforeseen tasks/allied activities which may arise during the course of project, particularly in large complex project. Nonetheless, success of any project depends on effective team coordination.

Construction schedule created to define every task and event in a project during the planning phase. The plan also lists all the resources needed for each step, as well as how they’ll be divided up between teams throughout all stages of development, from idea through to completion. A construction schedule should include: Relevant deadlines Resource management Allocated assets All project deliverables Specific tasks that need to be completed Any task dependencies that exist Task durations Set budgets and costing

Trained schedulers familiarize themselves with the project scope of work, trade requirements, logistics, and contract. They need to coordinate with project managers and trades to identify and confirm scope, and duration and sequencing. Typically, a high level preliminary schedule is required. This schedule will have a formative work breakdown structure (WBS) which the scheduler will populate with broad strokes. Once prelim schedule is approved, the construction schedule may be developed from that same WBS structure according to level of detail expected. At minimum, these include headings for Trade and AREA, and subheadings under which activities are sequenced. Once the construction schedule is approved, it is called a 'working baseline.'

Work breakdown structure (WBS) is a method for completing a complex, multi-step project. It's a way to divide and conquer large projects to get things done faster and more efficiently.  Before create a work breakdown structure, it's essential to first assess the project scope by talking to all stakeholders and key team members involved.

WBS structure must be constructed in a way that each new level in the hierarchy includes all the work needed to complete its parent task. This means that every parent task element must have more than one child task within it to consider the parent task element complete.  WBS as a Gantt chart that represents both a spreadsheet and a timeline. With a Gantt chart-structured WBS, can link task dependencies and show project milestones.

Break down each deliverable into all the tasks and sub-tasks required to complete them. Organize the tasks into work packages. Work packages are the lowest level of the breakdown and should define the work, duration, and costs for each task. Each work package should provide assignments that can be completed within a reporting period.  Make.sure no shortage,overage or damage the material where received at site. The logistic system also play important role for the project.
