Well I would venture to say that if you are doing field geology and outcrop work to help with your stratigraphy and reservoir models Camera is essential . And now we have videos on drones to capture the enormous hard to get to outcrops . Used to fly manned aircraft now we can use drones This work is essential for close up work and capture the details you cant get from Lidar or Satellite images My recommendation as a field geologist is take photos No such thing as too many And it can be upsetting if you dont take enough !!! Oh and if possible have a Scale in the photo in order to judge the dimensions if your outcrop
