Adapt, listen, and embrace diverse perspectives. Communication is a two-way street—culture thrives when you meet halfway. Clarity and respect bridge every gap. 🌍

Having worked with people from all over the world, I've learned that different cultures have different ways of communicating. Be respectful of those differences and open to learning. Pay close attention to what others are saying, and show that you value their input. This builds trust and understanding. Misunderstandings can happen easily, so I always clarify and confirm important points. Phrases like "Just to make sure I understand..." help a lot. Show patience and empathy. Understand that there might be language barriers or different communication styles at play. Adjust your communication style to match your team.

In my experience, working with diverse cultures has taught me the value of adaptability and intentionality in communication. Here are a few approaches that have worked well for me: Contextual Awareness: Understanding cultural nuances—like communication preferences and decision-making styles—helps bridge gaps and build stronger connections. Prioritising Active Listening: Truly listening without assumptions has been a game-changer. It shows respect and opens the door to understanding diverse viewpoints. Clarity Above All: I make a conscious effort to use straightforward, jargon-free language and visual aids where needed, ensuring my message resonates across the board.

Keep your communication simple. Don't try to be smart, try to be understood. If you keep it simple, everyone will understand. There are a few techniques you can use to ensure understanding of the message. If possible, have them help fine tune the message. For team members to bring their point of view on a particular message, they first need to understand the message in detail. This is a way you can ensure understanding while increasing the buy in to the message. If the message is one they cannot influence, build in feedback loops in the communication process to ensure the message received is the message sent. We have led cultural change in organizations around the world, we’re all basically the same.
