Understand what is most important to your employer. Sometimes it's the little things that you refuse to do that cause you to lose power and even get fired. I know of someone who was really good at her sales job which included traveling around the country. When she was home, her boss expected her to show up promptly at 9 but she was regularly a little later than that. He felt like she was being disrespectful to the rest of the team. She felt like he should cut her some slack because she might have flown home the night before at midnight. Why make this an issue? Dot the i, cross the t. She got fired. When the company was sold, the new owners sought her out because the customers loved her. Both sides were stubborn. And lost out.
