Unpopular opinion - I don't try and keep people motivated. Motivation is intrinsic, and I don't believe it's a sales leaders job to motivate as such. Hear me out on this one... It is DEFINITELY is our job to inspire people, and to understand people in our care's motivations, and to help them tap into them for the greater good! I'm a big believe in recognising micro moments of positive momentum when it comes to inspiring sales teams, especially ones working in complex enterprise sales environments. Celebrating the small wins, as well as the huge! One of my fav ways to do this is to celebrate EVERY win on our teams channel - no mater the $ value, with a little summary, some fun emojis, and my of course the "more cow bell" gif.

The most important variable in keeping sales people engaged and motivated is showing up in their lives - delivering them quality attention on a regular basis. When you have a remote team as many of my clients can attest to, showing up is critical. Thus many make a point of travelling to each of their sales teams locations to have quality one to one time with them. In addition many plan getting the team together at least once or twice annually in the one location which facilitates building a sense of community and allows the manager for some more quality one to one time. In the world we live in, I think we cannot underestimate the power of showing up in people's lives.
