Your team is quiet during retrospectives. How can you encourage them to speak up?

Les timides doivent être mis en confiance un peu plus que les autres et la parole doit leur être donnée en priorité, en laissant le temps nécessaire pour qu'ils puissent trouver, par exemple, les mots sans crainte.

Open communication and mutual respect some of the values scrum success depends on. So to ensure these during retropectives, building trust ,providing a safe environment to put forward the concerns is important. As a facilitator, scrum master should ensure these are maintained. Each team member should feel safe to express their thoughts and also come up with improvements for any concerns raised

To build trust we need to create teust and friendly environment in team by doing team collaboration activities, so that they can express their opinions in a friendly way. Make team engage always to build more trust.

Keep track of each individual expression and opinion to make address make address board to contain backlog items and solutions on open ended pages.

Rotating the roles will help the team members to feel the responsibility and ownership. Facilitator doesn't need to to all activities like timekeeping, notes on action items etc. With different team members playing different roles and rotating for every retrospective will keep the members engaged as there is ownership on certain activities.

Distribuer les rôles, donner un rôle de « leader » à ceux ayant peu l'habitude d'exprimer des points de vue est un excellent exercice pour eux, qui au fil du temps sera 100 % bénéfique pour le groupe. Cela apprend aussi au "leader" de prendre le temps d'écouter ceux ayant moins de facilité.

Many of the scrum master doing PM job. then who will do Scrum work. If scrum master doesn't have enough time to do day in day out scrum work, how the team is getting motivated to participated and talk in usual sprint ceremonies? its very difficult.

Encouraging your team to speak up during retrospectives shouldn't be rushed without understanding the underlying reasons for their silence. It's important to first identify why the team is quiet. Potential reasons could include a lack of understanding of the importance of retrospectives, a perception that these meetings are routine and unproductive, or feelings of disillusionment if past discussions and resolutions were not implemented. Before pushing for more participation, ensure that you accurately identify and address these underlying issues to effectively resolve the core problems.

Again, when it comes to agility, stick to the fundamentals. Usually, resources consider retrospectives as "complaints." There should be an internal approach to make sure that every developer understands the essence of retrospective. Usually, if they have complaints or haven't delivered, you can experience calmness during the retrospective meetings.  Agile is a mindset game, not a process. I had noticed this in many project development teams, particularly in Asia/Pacific. Every resource is ready to find fault with other developers, whether they deliver or not. Keep some evidence ready to point fingers at others.  Breaking this kind of mindset is the key. The basics of agility are to break this mindset of lay blame.

Is that the right perspective to measure productivity metrics for Agile projects? At many times this is the challenge for the Agile Team on this factor and it is not a reference point with a normalised data.

We need to understand what are the reasons people are not opening up in Retrospectives. As coaches and Leaders, we should create an open, transparent, respectful environment where people feel safe when they speak their minds. Have 1-1 conversations with them to know more and take corrective measures.
