In many occasions, conflicts happen because there is no clear structure in the organization: some functions overlap, whereas others are not covered. The leader must clarify the structure and it is not valid naive approaches like “we don’t need a structure, let’s work as a team”: precisely to work as a team, people need to know their role, responsibility, and objectives.

Restoring harmony amidst rising internal conflict can be a daunting experience for a leader. I managed this situation in four phases: Phase 1 - I invited our team to uncover the conflicting issues in our internal meetings. I guided the team to agree on the "principles of engaging conflict" in a mutually respectable and unbias manner. Phase 2 - We got together to understand the root causes of the conflict. I guided the team to actively listen with patience to all perspectives without taking any sides. Phase 3 - I encouraged the team to acknowledge the conflict transparently and with empathy for each other. I asked them to focus on the mediation process gracefully. Phase 4 - We celebrated resolutions frequently and this led to harmony.

To restore peace and productivity in the midst of internal disagreements, start open talks to identify the underlying causes. Mediate impartially while fostering empathy and active listening. Set up clear communication norms and dispute resolution methods. Create a collaborative environment by encouraging team-building activities and mutual respect. Recognise and respond to individual contributions and complaints. Provide training on effective communication and dispute resolution. Monitor team dynamics and provide ongoing assistance. By resolving problems constructively, you may restore trust, boost morale, and increase overall team productivity.
