If you aim to be a specialist, you can dive deep in one domain (like fundraising). On either path, plan to gain both a depth and breadth of experience. Don't job hop, but also don't stay in the same organization forever.

La adquisición continua de conocimientos, competencias y habilidades es fundamental el ejercicio de funciones de liderazgo, más si cabe a la hora de afrontar la dirección de entidades sin ánimo de lucro, por su idiosincrasia y esa necesidad especial de combinar humanismo y resultados en una gestión de recursos siempre compleja. Mi recomendación es la combinación de programas de formación en desarrollo directivo, administración, gestión y transformación… con la adquisición de competencias vinculadas con las denominadas “soft skills”: liderazgo, comunicación, inteligencia emocional, empatía, toma de decisiones y resolución de conflictos. Siempre desde modelos de liderazgo de servicio, democráticos, horizontales, transformacionales…

Uno de los pilares fundamentales en un plan de carrera sólido para quien lidere entidades no lucrativas es, sin duda, la generación de una red de contactos amplia, heterogénea y basada en relaciones de confianza construidas a lo largo de los años. Algo que no se compra y que necesariamente pasa por años de trabajo, formación, solidaridad, excelencia y cuidado de las personas. Construir identidad desde los valores propios y practicando con el ejemplo, generando credibilidad y no buscando sólo el interés propio; equilibrando emoción y razón, con naturalidad y rigor, cuidando de las relaciones para que estas perduren.

Get to know a senior-level mentor. - Issue-Based (if you want to focus on an area like housing or education or health): Focus on national and global networks that expand your visibility.

Cultivar el liderazgo, pero no cualquier estilo de liderazgo, porque en la era de la tecnología, las personas deben de destacar y ser más protagonistas que nunca. Un/a líder, especialmente en el ámbito de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, ha de afianzar su desarrollo profesional en postulados humanistas, democráticos, desarrollando estilos de comunicación horizontal y apostando por el trabajo en equipo, generando compromiso y confianza, preparando a su equipo para el desarrollo de la actividad en entornos complejos y cambiantes. Liderazgos transformacionales, que apuesten por las personas y comprendan conceptos como el “management del sentido común” y todo lo que ello implica.
