You’re applying for a content creation job. How do you convince your interviewer that you’re the right fit?

So back in the days like a decade ago when listicles were catching up and everybody wanted to be the next BuzzFeed I was asked to fill in mainly for writing listicles... So, instead of telling them I can write listicles, I scripted my resume in listicle form, and also wrote an entire listicle on why they should hire me with memes, tweets, gifs etc... Basically, giving them a demo and sample of things that they were looking in their creative content writer. And that's how you can convince. - giving them what they are looking for!

While showcasing your portfolio, there are two main aspects that you need to focus on: Diverse Content: Present a portfolio that highlights a variety of content types you've created, such as articles, blogs, social media content, videos, and infographics. Tailor it to the job's requirements. Success Stories: Include examples that achieved significant results, like increased website traffic, improved SEO rankings, or higher engagement rates. Be ready to discuss the strategies you used to achieve these outcomes.

A well-curated portfolio is instrumental in showcasing the breadth and depth of my writing capabilities. It proves my ability to craft engaging, informative, and compelling content across various niches. I've included pieces in my portfolio highlighting my proficiency in SEO, flair for storytelling, and adaptability to different brand voices and content formats. Each piece is selected not just for the quality of writing but also to demonstrate successful outcomes, such as increased engagement, higher web traffic, or improved conversion rates. Questions like, 'Can you describe a successful content campaign the company recently launched and what made it successful?' or 'How does the content team measure success, and how can my role contribute to enhancing those metrics?' This approach helps me understand the company's priorities and shows the interviewer that I'm thinking critically about how I can add value. Additionally, asking about the team dynamics and the company's vision for future content initiatives gives me a clearer picture of where I could fit in and how I can contribute to the team's success.

Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Emphasise your willingness and ability to adapt to new trends, tools, and technologies in the ever-evolving content creation field. Highlight any ongoing learning or certifications you're pursuing related to content marketing, SEO, or digital marketing. Collaboration and Communication Skills: Content creation often involves working with other marketing, design, and sales departments. Highlight your experience and skills in collaborating across teams and your ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Problem-Solving Skills: Give examples of how you've tackled challenges in content projects, such as overcoming a drop in website traffic or increasing engagement on a low-performing piece.
