You're collaborating on a podcast with someone in another country. How can you make it work?

It is important to choose a platform that permits both of you to pertake in the podcast. Some platforms are not allowed in some country and that is a limitation on a collaborative effort of such. Ensure the podcast has high recording quality for further enhancement and editing to show forth for reference purposes in the future.

As I consider moving into mini interviews and micro-topics or courses I would say that you can sometimes get bogged down in the details. Of course tech stack and systemisation with programming is all important. Undoubtly helps. But a plan is just a plan and things are better off just done. So lay something down, complete it as best you can and put it out there. You will never die wondering if you try.

The time difference can be a major concern and put a level of difficulty in the collaborative effort. So it means you have to create time that synchronize with your availability. Google calendar would be a good tool to help in handling such differences.

Google calendar would be easy but just deciding on a fixed schedule would be the easiest... Calendly is a nice alternative for more flexible shceduling but is not free.

Equipment that will enhance quality of your delivery and appearance is of high importance. If you want it to be recorded, ensure you make use of good quality camera device. A good and sensitive microphone and a conducive environment that will not amplify echo, reverberation and background noises.

You need good equipment up to a point. Most people won't hear the difference between you spending $500 or $5000 on the equipment. No one ever just listens to a podcast cuz it sounds high quality. They tune in for the topic, the guests, and conversation.

Be sensitive enough to respect the culture and social values of where you are appearing. There are places slangs are not morally alright to greet someone you are seeing or hearing from the first time and it is absolutely okay somewhere else so long there is mutual respect. Make comments, jokes and instances in a general acceptable manner so as not to sound offensive on the podcast.

After investing time and energy in attendance of the podcast, editing of the posdcast and showcasing the podcast, the one factor remaining to get it across widely to larger audience is by promoting it. That will cost a bit or more money depends on your reach target. You can run ads on different social media like metaverse, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and some websites. The goal is to get more people see the podcast, learn and engage with it.

Biggest mistake people make is thinking of promoting the podcast as an after thought. Promoting it on social media is at least as important as making the podcast because if no one knows the podcast exists then its basically pointless to make it.

Always seek feedback but also be critical of whichones you you choose to act. If the feedback leads to losing what differentiates you from other offerings or what your core audience wants/needs then I would ignore it.

Doing a podcast with someone in another country or timezone is not especially hard. It's mostly a matter of reliable Internet. So it helps to schedule it for a time when the Internet is not especially busy between the two ends. The crack of dawn on at least one of the ends is the best time since few are working or watching Netflix then.

One thing I have found very helpful is choosing a common subject matter or topic. You can have the right platform, tools, time zones etc but if the topic or subject matter is not shared, all the other things don't really matter. Choosing a topic will bring you closer to the right audience, this often relates to the people you'll be engaging which leads to considerations on culture, time zones, platform, tools and the promotion of the podcast. It's also important to get to know the person you will be collaborating with and this is not just on surface level but it has to be someone that you have journeyed with for a long time.
