You're faced with a complex problem at your internship. How can you navigate through it successfully?

Here are some things which help me to effectively assess any issue: 1. We understand a problem when we are able to put in into simpler words. So I always ask myself if I can explain the problem to a layman. 2. I try to break problem into simpler problems if possible. 3. Once through with the understanding, I ensure to assess what exactly I know or have at hand (kind of like input), and what outcome I want to achieve. 4. I try to assess issue from different point of situations, and create a flowchart-like graph which lets me take different cases into consideration.

Some ways to go through it is - Seek to know the root cause of the issue : Enquire with whom you have an issue and calmly try explaining your perspective - When explaining don't justify : Tell your perspective but do not try to say you were "right" -Always try to adress the root cause before it flares up : Don't try to hasten it, but try to finish solving the issue rather than not forgetting about it or not paying much heed to it because it could end up in a serious trouble for you

The most important thing when you are involved in solving a problem is to actually understand the problem correctly.From my experience in the ICM-SPM space , I have learned that it is very important to ask the right questions in order to evaluate and understand the problem .

I would go with seeking guidance from senior colleagues on the complex problem. Because I definitely should have assessed the problem (which also means I have done my part of researching about it)and probably didn't know how to go about solving it still. Never feel ashamed to ask for help, that's why you are an intern. and there's no bad in giving it a first try and then you getting feedbacks on what you did wrong or didn't do right. Asking questions and getting answers from someone who has experienced such problems makes it easier and faster for you to use their experience and learn from it. Nothing beats experience! While figuring out solution for a problem, reaching out to someone having significant experience in said domain will definitely help you reach not just a effective but efficient solution as well. It's obvious we cannot excel at everything. When I am working on an issue which does not belong to my area of expertise, I always try to discuss it with people who have practical experience working with the same. Asking question from such experience holders might feel a bit intimidating, but it is worth the learning and help you get. All the best! 🙌

Why did you priotize and create plan? To Solve it. To fix it. To implement it. Lower your expectations. You are not Superman. With high probability, you plan might not workout, but it's okay. Totally, okay. Make necessary changes and keep going.

If it is not effective, return to the initial step but this time with a more critical eye and the experience of the previous evaluation. Growth = Reflection If you don't reflect on your past experience and mistakes, you can't get out of loop. You will just repeat the same mistake 1000th time and you'll income will stay the same and will decrease because of inflation.

Usually an intern faced with the complex problems is that how to learn and from whom to learn about an issue. It is advisable that the intern must be open minded to learn from all irrespective of their designations . Connect with the specific staff , go through the files thoroughly . Understand the problem and the situation. Know thyself in terms of knowledge, potentials , limitations and authority to deal with issue. Do not get nervous . Be optimistic and have confidence. Contact the immediate superior or the departmental head and give feedback with needed elaborations. Participate in discussion, accept the advice and work towards the solution of the complex problem. If feasible and permissible take guidance from the outside expert.
