Language Barrier can prove fatal at work place. Communication rather effective communication is key to effective Safety. I remember at one of my work place, there was management decision to employ specially abled persons (Deaf and unable to speak), it was biggest challenge to get them placed in an automobile manufacturing plant. We initially deployed few facilitators who can communicate in sign language and this way we started. At work place, emphasis was put on visual management, signage, of course enough care taken on enhancing safety features of machines. We ourselves learnt sign language and the project was great success. If you are not able to communicate with employees in the language understood by them, forget implementing Safety.
