There are tons of fun and easy-to-follow courses online that teach cybersecurity. Platforms like Coursera or Udemy have courses for beginners. Look for ones that cover topics like keeping your computer safe and how to spot scams.

The plethora of free training is overwhelming. The better question is what "role" in cyber security interests you the most. Then you can find training and info on that role specifically. If you have to take a few steps back to make great leaps forward, you'll make that decision. But the biggest challenge is what resources do I have on hand to "tinker" with. And start there. The only direction from ground zero is up. For example, many read about threat hunting in enterprises without realizing the home desktop they're using for training has it's own security and event logs. Think local and use what you have.

Este para mi es el mas importante, para empezar en ciberseguridad empieza por algo que ya conoces y te vas a dar cuenta que seguiras aprendiendo de otras cosas en espiral. Por ejemplo: eres desarrollador web y empiezas en el dominio de "seguridad web" (obvio) y ves como hacer un SQL injection, pero para mejorar ese ataque aprendes de Bases de Datos, después de administración y seguridad del sistema operativo donde está esa BD, luego de seguridad en redes y así sucesivamente, hasta que por alguna razón llegas a seguridad de drones y descubres que el dron tiene un sitio web interno que se usa para las actualizaciones del proveedor y -en la espiral de aprendizaje- vuelves otra vez a aprender algo del dominio de seguridad web.

Self-learning is one of the best tools in Cybersecurity, if you already have a background in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems. I put myself through couple years of school, but I realized that I learnt more through CTF's and online learning platforms as tryhackme.com. For a non-traditional learner who really wants to break into the field and follow a more methodical pattern, certifications coupled with COURSERA/UDEMY are the best bet. Google Cybersecurity Certificate and ISC2 CC are some foundational ones that introduce one to the taxonomy of cybersecurity. This way you can move up the certification pathway. However, for a more hands-on approach, I'd suggest SEED labs and CyberBitLabs by Bartlett and Journal.

My background is not in cybersecurity, so when I had to learn more about it I had to start the exploration process. Having a background in computer science and information systems, I started to see some overlap with things I was familiar with. With exploring new content the first thing I did was just to read more news and to see what was going on in the field. From there it was starting to develop a learning community by connecting and following cybersecurity experts. As an IT Tech Instructor one of my biggest frustrations is folks wanting to enter the field based on the advise of someone they know. However, they have yet to read one article about a recent cyber attack, let alone follow a trend. So I challenge my students with homework every day: read something interesting that sparked your curiosity and come share with the class. And then follow that rabbit hole and learn as much about that attack, the vulnerability that led to it, the people behind it, and what you'd like to do to prevent it in the future. The things you gravitate towards are the trends that will help you focus your natural skills.

Even if you blow up your own home network or failed 20 times at a TryHackMe problem, nothing speaks to a prospective employer like hearing your logic and problem solving process. IMHO, this far outweighs that you scored a minimum passing score on a certifications exam. The certification might get you an interview, but you better have some great stories to follow up.

Networking transformed my career path in cybersecurity. I attended a cybersecurity conference I found on Eventbrite, which was a game-changer. There, I connected with a seasoned professional who later became my mentor. This relationship not only expanded my knowledge and skills but also opened doors to job opportunities I wouldn’t have found otherwise. #InfoSec on Twitter isn't as popular as it used to be but many top professionals share their best insights on Twitter, though it's more focussed on general topics or news on breaches and vulnerabilities. You should send out connection requests to people working in cyber on LinkedIn. More nuanced conversation occurs on LinkedIn than Twitter. My last recommendation is to join a local regular meetup of cyber folks. Most large cities have a 2600 meetup or a DCxxxxx (DefCon related) meetup.

Cyber Security is a multidisciplinary feild that requires knowledge of how computers work,thier architechtures, vulnerabilities, and how attackers can exploit them. So having a strong base in Computer Architechture, OS, Networking/data transfer mechanisms, and knowledge of various cyber attacks is a must to be able to secure systems. Cyber Security encompasses various roles like finding bugs and patching, securing networks, securing data (cloud/on-premise), framing policies and audits, incident management or data recovery and forensics. Also here we deal with various devices weather it be mobiles, computers, IoT/OT devices or cloud, so having a strong hold in any one domain and subdomain will make you ace in cyber security world !!
