One thing I’ve found helpful is that focusing on every human sense that can be targeted through VR will create the best experience for the user, for example spatial audio creates a sense of connection between the user and the environment he’s in and its very easy to implement!

Focusing on what matters for your immersive experience is key. If photorealistic visuals aren’t needed, donot waste time on it. Make a list! What are the factors that will give the most immersive experience in the narrative? Rank them and build them accordingly. It’s easy to fall into the pitfall of great graphics & textures but more often than not it ends up being a gimmick. Avoid that at all costs, use things like Spatial Audio or other techniques such as only having a FOV of 180 degrees if that’s really is what needed. It’s fun to target the highest end that is full immersion but remember if your experience is too much, they shiny bells and whistles may detract from what the actual point of the experience is

Performance Stability: Focus on ensuring consistent frame rates and quick loading times to prevent discomfort and maintain immersion. Optimization: Allocate resources to optimize VR content for smooth performance on target hardware. User Experience: Prioritize performance over graphical complexity, as users are more tolerant of simpler graphics than performance issues that could cause motion sickness.

Reducing motion sickness is the name of the game when it comes to VR. Users have low trust in the hardware and software on VR platforms, prioritizing stability will keep users more immersed and more likely to return to the application.

Maintaining optimal frame rates in a VR experience is extremely important. Lag and judder can cause motion sickness, headaches and eye strain, so it's essential to fine-tune performance. You can do this by minimizing the number of on-screen (in-view) objects in the experience. This improves performance since there's less polygons (geometry) that has to be rendered at any point. High-resolution textures can also significantly impact memory usage and performance, so use them sparingly. Techniques like Level of Detail (LOD) allow rendering objects with varying detail based on proximity. Meta recommends a frame rate of 90fps for VR but I've found that you can get away with anything above 75.

The game's build optimization will be tailored to the target platform. PC-connected VR experiences generally have more processing power available compared to standalone VR headsets. Based on market research, we may need to scale graphical features up or down for optimal performance on each platform. This ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience for users regardless of their hardware.

In my opinion, the market appreciates one thing above all else and that is value. Value is measured by the problem solving capabilities of an offering.
