In my experience teams need a virtual space and a physical space (when possible) to collect insights, ideas and updates. We use different software to document the whole process but also software to build prototypes that will be tested with clients. Nevertheless, people should not stumble their innovation efforts just because they don't have money to buy licenses for state of the art platforms. Everything works, even a basic Excel. Much more important is the motivation behind teams to achieve results.

Diverse thinking and the ability to learn are essential ingredients for innovation. Collaboration is the key that brings out the value of these ingredients.
