Before diving into networking, it’s crucial to define your goals. Are you seeking job opportunities, advice, or insights into new industries? From my experience, setting clear objectives helps tailor your networking efforts to be more targeted and effective. This clarity also makes it easier to articulate your needs when engaging with others, leading to more meaningful and productive conversations.

Before even identifying goals I believe it's important to be really clear with your intention and the energy you are bringing in. Are you diving into networking with the intention of "taking" or with the intention of "giving"? I believe that when we give and when we nurture our network, this is when we don't even need to ask or take. We attract opportunities that are in alignment with our intentions and values.

From my perspective, effective networking during a career transition involves identifying and reaching out to key industry contacts. Attend relevant events, join professional groups, and utilize platforms like LinkedIn to connect. Tailor your outreach to show genuine interest in others' work and seek advice, which can lead to valuable opportunities.

As your career transitions, some of your existing contacts may no longer align with your new path. From my experience, it’s helpful to curate your network by focusing on individuals who can provide valuable insights, mentorship, or connections in your new field. This doesn’t mean abandoning old contacts entirely, but rather prioritizing relationships that will be most beneficial for your current journey.
