First, understand what is important to you when it comes to benefits and what the value of those benefits and perks are. It's as simple as making a plus and minus list. Include the compensation, health and welfare benefits, investment options and perks. What are they valued at and how important are they to you. Then you can decide if the compensation including those other benefits are meeting your financial and other needs.

You need to be clear on what is important to you in the "overall package" from the start. This could be benefits you are currently getting, that you couldn't live without, OR something you don't have, that you have always wanted. And then prioritise getting those! And make sure you ask for the benefits package early in the process so you're not wasting anyone's time. Unfortunately it's not as simple as just "adding" certain benefits, as have to roll out to the whole business etc, but you can ask, and sometimes companies are able to add these on for you specifically.

#KatherineFloresL

Acknowledge the importance of benefits and express your interest in understanding the full compensation package. Ask specific questions about benefits to assess their value and explore potential flexibility in other areas if needed.

When negotiating salary with a new employer, address benefits by asking for clarification on the full benefits package, including health coverage, retirement plans, and other perks like paid time off. If there are concerns about the benefits offered, express appreciation for the offer while calmly explaining the specific areas where you'd like to see improvements. Frame the conversation as a way to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that aligns with your needs, emphasizing the importance of the full compensation package, not just salary.
