You’re in public administration. How can you use entrepreneurship to make a difference?

Entrepreneurship is all about giving more than 100 percent each tym and every tym in whatever they do, when a person start building this mindset, they start creating values for all around and that’s what is entrepreneurship is all about. Creating Value for others and self is the Mantra of true entrepreneur.

In my experience, entrepreneurship can be mobilised to make a difference in the following ways; 1. Promote economic development: Use entrepreneurship as a tool for economic development by supporting initiatives that foster job creation, economic growth, and community revitalization. 2. Measure impact and outcomes: Evaluate the impact of entrepreneurship initiatives and programs to assess their effectiveness in driving positive change. 3. Address community needs: Encourage entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to address pressing community needs and social challenges. 4. Empower intrapreneurship: Cultivate a culture of intrapreneurship within government agencies by empowering employees to take initiative.

Entrepreneurship serves as a dynamic platform for effecting positive change on both local and global scales. With its boundless potential, entrepreneurship can be harnessed to make a difference in various ways, including promoting diversity, advocating sustainable practices, empowering communities, driving technological innovations, and more.

I have been in the Egyptian Startups & Entrepreneurship eco system since 2010. I can summarize my experience in Entrepreneurship = Disrupting Industries. Entrepreneurs have the potential to disrupt traditional industries and create new market opportunities by using disruptive technologies which will introduce to the market more sustainable, ethical, faster, or inclusive business models that promote positive change and reshape industries for the better.

Public Service and Entrepreneurship have both as a role to solve peoples problems and bring value into the daily life of their targeted population. By fostering the entrepreneurial spirit of civil servants through encouraging them to take into intrapreurial initiatives that are close to their hearts, using the frameworks and resources within their reach, we can empower them to tackle the challenges of their communities and engage with the different entities representing these latter through different kinds of partnerships. That would increase engagement levels and the involvement of civil servants in their tasks and result in a higher satisfaction levels of the communities regarding governmental and local programs targeting them.

Entrepreneurship is important for public administration because it brings innovation, efficiency, and adaptability. It encourages creative solutions, effective resource utilization, and fosters partnerships. By embracing entrepreneurial principles, governments can stimulate economic growth, improve service delivery, and empower citizens.

You need to start by changing the mental model of the leaders (the way they lead) as well as by making substantial modifications to the way people are assessed and rewarded. People need to learn how to embrace not fear change!

By drifting away from: - regulation-first thinking - making innovation fit into procedures - unions and collective contracts - constraints in labour and fiscal laws If you break these within safe spaces or sandboxes, for sure, even public servants will start adding value

It is very simple you can build entrepreneurship mindset by loving problems. When you love problems then you can find their solutions. Once you mind identify problem then your entrepreneurship skills will turn its solution in to business.

Embracing failure. Viewing failure as your coach to make you improve. 2 months ago, it is observed that my teammates have been in a low morale, speaking low and slow in the sprint meeting. There should be some problem amid. After I investigate, it is found that they were lost and frustrated with the back-and-forth changes that prompts a feeling that it doesn't matter what I have accomplish as it will be thrown away and re-do something else again. Then, a cross-team sprint workflow is crafted. Now the team is collaborating happily, knowing what should be done everyday without on-and-off enquiry, and feel achieved to go back home.

As a founder you will have to constantly deal with problems and find ways to solve them. It can be stressful and painful. Learn how to constantly solve problems and you are on the right track!

To find and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities in public administration, one can research the subject matter in question, associate oneself with professionals and organizations, or identify areas that require certain services that have not yet been provided.

Examples include e-government platforms for streamlined services, public-private partnerships for infrastructure projects, and social entrepreneurship initiatives addressing community needs through innovative solutions.

Teaching the principles of JFDI or JDI in the much politer form for more sensitive persons😎! This will increase self worth and “reduce the jobs worth attitude” often found in public organisations🙏

Entrepreneurship in public administration might include forming a nonprofit organization to provide affordable housing, creating a social enterprise to handle food insecurity, or developing a technological start-up to improve government operations.

Entrepreneurship has no limit. It can be there no matter the job or the role you are working on, no matter it is on your workplace or in the personal life. It is a mindset or ideology to keep making things better than before.

The concept is intrapreneurship, the identification of internal champions that can lead and trigger change within the limits of the public administration office they belong to.

When venturing into entrepreneurial activities in public administration, important issues to consider are legality, ethics, working with stakeholders, and having an economically viable business model.
