You’re starting a job search. How can you stay organized and on track?

First thing if you are employed - make time in your calendar for job-searching activities! Finding time can be very challenging when you have other commitments. Second, set a target: > update CV / LinkedIn by X date > apply to X roles per week > reach out to X contacts per week Third, track and document: > any project management tools or Excel For my clients, I built a "Job Search Project Tracker" doc on Notion, which helps track, document, organize, and progress with the job search activities from the very beginning to the very end.

Stay out of rabbit holes and don't collect jobs. Time is limited. Use it wisely so you are successful! 1- Create a schedule and commit to it, as if it were a doctor’s appointment. 2- This is important for YOU. Remember your WHY. Use that to stay motivated. 3- You can’t do everything all at the same time. Choose 1 job at a time. 4- Target your resume and cover letter. 5- Look for connections using LinkedIn when applying 6- Apply 7- Repeat 8- Once you have completed your resume, LinkedIn is easy to update. Take a few minute to professionalize, making sure to have a good profile picture, wallpaper, and title. 9- Ask for LinkedIn recommendations 10- Be mindful to not spend all your time “collecting” jobs. You need to actually apply.

- Creating a detailed plan. - Setting specific goals(for example: which industry you want to start your new position) - Keeping track of job listings - As I told you in other articles on LinkedIn, Tailoring your resume and cover letter for each position - Networking is also crucial, so make a list of contacts and reach out to them regularly. - Self-care to stay motivated throughout the process.

First determine what makes you happy. What job/company do you want? Don't focus on who might hire you. Be specific, targeted, and detailed. Don't try to list every random skill. Scan job posts for skills. Keep records of all interactions with dates and actions (e.g. lm 3/4 wcb 3/7 = "left message March 4, will call back March 7") and add to calendar for 3/7. Keep all names, emails, phone in address book so you'll see when they call back and won't miss the call. Add recruiters to your address book. Update LinkedIn. More people will see your profile than your resume. Leverage your connections.

Staying organized in the job search can allow you to have some sort of control over this overwhelming process. First off, create a list of 15-20 targeted companies (top companies in that industry, companies who have posted jobs that are appealing, etc.). Second, create a spreadsheet with a tab for each company. In each tab, log information about how and when you've tried connecting to this company - i.e. applied to specific job, emailed HR director, reached out to alum who work there, completed follow ups, etc.). Third, update and visit these tabs each day so you know when to follow up or reach out to more connections. You should never sit and wait in the job search so visiting this spreadsheet daily should help you keep active.

Staying organized is all about having a system with repeatable tactics. Here are ten to get you thinking- though everyone's system will be personal to their specific goals. 1. Schedule daily activities. I prefer mornings so as to get your job “search” activities (job search sites, LinkedIn, etc.) out of the way. Establishing networking goals. Track your activities including scheduling follow ups. Follow through Brace yourself. Job hunting is an exercise in negativity, the results of most of your efforts produce negative results.

Treat your job search like a 9-to-5 gig and carve out dedicated hours each week. Maybe it's two hours every morning for scouring job boards and submitting applications, followed by an hour of networking and follow-ups in the afternoon. Set timers or alarms to keep you on track and focused. By sticking to a schedule, you'll boost productivity, stay laser-focused, and maintain that all-important motivation. With every hour wisely spent, you're one step closer to landing your dream job.

Dedicate a few hours each day to scouring a legitimate job board and company websites, possibly having a few different versions of your resume ready to tailor, and thoroughly researching each company’s culture. Quantity will rarely beat quality when it comes to your job search. Research companies thoroughly to discover the culture that will be an excellent fit for you in the long-term. Search using multiple methods, like keywords, job titles, company names, industries, skills, and flexibility. Treat job searching as your job with a set schedule. Ask for help and feedback from professional friends, family, and job search professionals. Target companies that mirror your values.

Not all tasks are created equal, so it's crucial to prioritize wisely. Instead of spraying your resume like confetti, target applications to roles that align with your goals and skills. Focus on nurturing leads from interested employers rather than firing off cold emails into the abyss. By zeroing in on high-impact tasks, you'll work smarter, not harder. So, grab that to-do list and start prioritizing like a pro. Your dream job awaits!

This works in circles. The folks you know are the first circle. The people they refer you to are the second, and so forth. When you get to people in the third, fourth, and fifth circles you should be either talking to people who can hire you, or have changed your mind about that type of work. Statistically you are 3.57 people away from someone who could hire you. I turned out to be four people away. The fourth guy hired me. Will you face rejection? You bet! Will you have a much greater chance of finding a job you love? Absolutely!
