First define the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based) goals. What are you trying to do - how will you know when you know are successful? Then collect data that address these goals.

The foremost priority is the "Outreach Plan". It is imperative to have a well-defined plan with outlined activities. Subsequently, any outreach activity undertake should be meticulously documented and shared among the respective team members. Additionally, conducting monthly meetings dedicated to outreach activities is crucial. Additionally, being a part of community collaboratives such as the rotary club, the area chamber, or other civic organizations aligns you directly with advocates who can guide you to resources to enhance the your mission through partnerships.

Here are some platforms that can streamline the process: Idealist, Catchafire, VolunteerMatch. Once you've identified potential partners, managing collaborations becomes crucial. Utilize project management and communication platforms to streamline your efforts: Asana, Trello, Slack. By integrating these online platforms into your partnership strategy, you can not only discover valuable allies but also manage collaborations effectively, ultimately maximizing the impact of your collective efforts.

Another important tool is discipline. I know many colleagues in the non-profit world that can’t afford tracking systems and so we use a manual tracking system. But with discipline you will not fall off their radar nor will you fall off theirs if you keep the communication going.

I find that often, online-based outreach strategies can do a lot, but you need qualitative feedback to pinpoint what people are looking for. It's usually more time-intensive, but you don't necessarily need a lot of comments and you don't necessarily need each person to answer multiple questions.

If you don’t have the people in the room who you want, it is 100% more about you and your environment than about them. Always ask yourself “what can I do to make the space around me more welcoming, approachable, and worth people’s time?” before you ask yourself “how do I go get people who aren’t here?” My experience is there is a direct correlation and my self is at the root of it.

Genuine concern for other people and a consistent posture of contributing to other’s wellbeing is far more important than lots of planning and efforts in outreach.
