It is very important I believe to expose students depending on their their level to authentic documents i.e. those mentioned above audio files, videos, blogs podcasts, newspaper articles and there are plenty available online. I love a good text book which provides a good grammar base and topics in a sequence that is easy to follow. At a lower level games, songs, and flashcards are popular with learners no matter their learning styles and abilities. Using the target language as much as possible and linking the language to other subjects learnt helps as well.

I think this is actually the best option. But it also depends on the age level. Games help students break from the bore of lessons and generates understanding in a more relaxed method.

in an online setting there is access to so much authentic material, for free! Make sure you recommend websites, blogs, magazines, youtubers etc. in the language you're teaching, and get stds to follow them and engage with this material as part of their program.

Pen and paper: these two are the ultimate tools I encourage my students to use in class. Neuroscience reseaches prove that writing things down increase significantly vocabulary recall and overall memorization—and I can confirm that from my own teaching experience. Don't get me wrong: technology is a huge ally in the learning process. But so is keeping it simple.

In face-to-face classes, I use cuisine to enhance cultural sensitivity, teach vocabulary, and practice grammar. Encourage students to use language learning apps that they can access outside of class. These apps can provide additional practice and reinforce classroom learning. At Outreach360, all Virtual English Academy students are expected to work on Duolingo on their own 5 days a week until they complete all of Duolingo English. They then start working on a different platform on a daily basis. This daily habit can continue while your school is on a break as well to help with the learning slide.

I agree with you. I help young refugees to learn German, but one at a time. Everyone has a different ‎kind of learning and learns at a different pace. It is indeed essential to be able to adapt to each one ‎individually. So, they learn in the way they feel comfortable with.‎

I don’t consider myself an expert, but by far I’ve found that my willingness to accept my students making “mistakes” when speaking or writing, have given them a positive insight into their own learning experience.
