Tools like Gallup and Core strengths are helpful. 2. You need to wear different hats based on what the situation demands. Understanding the situation from a third party perspective helps in that. Zoom out from the situation and try to gauge what needs to be done. 3. Understanding the individuals strengths and how they behave in conflict situations would help a great deal to adjust your leadership style as per the need.

You cannot use 1 leadership style for different groups. My suggestion to deal with such situation is: Understand the problem from the employees perspectice (wearing his shoe), thereafter address the concern with appropriate leadership style.

Leadership is a very dynamic and impactful skill. In order to fit it for different situations and different individuals, you need to first understand yourself. This means that you need to have a strong sense of self-awareness. Understand your default way of leading people, what are your natural tendencies, approaches, and strategies, and how you respond to different situations. When you understand your leadership style completely, that's when you will know how and what to tweak for varied people and situations.

Adapting our leadership style involves understanding our team & the situation. Consider factors like team members' personalities, project complexity & organizational culture. We should be flexible & willing to adjust our approach. As per my thought effective leaders can switch between directive, participative, delegative & supportive styles as needed. For instance, a hands-on approach might be necessary during project kick-off, while a delegative style could work for experienced team members. It is not easy to read the room, especially when it's your first time there. It's even more challenging when you enter the room via a Zoom call. Reading people is a skill that takes time to develop. I am a strong advocate of evidence-based learning, and I suggest that if you don't trust your gut feeling or are not comfortable reading the room, you should use psychometric tests. These tests can provide you with a basic understanding of your behavioural traits and how you can improve your ability to read the room based on your own profile. I've been using DiSC for this purpose, as it is easy to understand and even easier to implement in everyday work.

And all of this will depend on the situation and the person with whom you are dealing. If the team is going through a stressful time, you need to be more empathetic and supportive and offer them guidance. If the team isn't working as they should, you have to be strict and lay out expectations and deadlines firmly. So as the situation changes, you need to keep changing the approach and help your team to be that flexible as well.

This means interacting with them on your regular calls and analyzing their personality and way of working. Every individual has a different way of taking their task seriously.
