As you grow in your career you accumulate numerous experiences on culture, conflicts, appreciation, toxic incidents of over work, empowerment and so on. Once you start to lead the teams you have a "choice" to lead with empathy with your experience. Empathy an important trait of a leader who can foster trust and build high performing teams.

Early in my career, I had the chance to be part of a leadership development circle with colleagues from wildly different backgrounds. Having that intimate forum to openly share perspectives was transformative for building mutual empathy. It reframed how I saw dynamics playing out and made me much more conscious of avoiding unintended impacts, especially on colleagues from underrepresented groups.

I have clear boundaries for what work gets done on various days so the team always know when I'll be available for specific projects or meetings - which works both ways! I know when they're available or working flexibly so we can easily align. Respect their boundaries without evening and weekend calls or meetings out of core hours, and they'll respect yours.

As a leader you may have to have separate conversations with introvert members and guide them to open up. Sometimes these members bring in the best ideas which were never thought of. The team members feel that they are being cared and start to add value towards the organization's vision.

Integrity first, always. Power dynamics are an inevitable part of the environment whenever you’re dealing with people, particularly in large groups, and you have to engage with them constructively and intelligently, but that doesn’t mean being ruled by them or allowing the power plays to overshadow or compromise integrity.

Demonstrate ethical behavior in all your actions. When your team sees you making principled decisions, they are more likely to follow suit.Acknowledge your mistakes and take responsibility for them. This builds trust and shows that integrity is a priority.

Leading by example means embodying the values you want to see in your team. Integrity, accountability, and consistency in actions build trust and set a standard for the entire organization. When leaders model ethical behavior, they inspire their team to do the same, ensuring that power is wielded with responsibility.

Actions speak louder than words. You are being watched constantly from everyone around you in your professional leadership role. The exercise of integrity is witnessed during the crisis situations - escalations, internal team conflicts and external conflicts etc. As a leader if you do not own to help solve/ facilitate these issues at right time, then there will be a question mark on your integrity and accountability. Your "resilience" attitude during crisis hour will help you to lead by example. Respect and accolades follow as by products of your actions.

Power without integrity is a recipe for disaster. True leadership isn't about wielding power, but about empowering others with integrity. Self-reflection is a powerful tool for leaders. Regularly evaluating your actions and their alignment with your values ensures you remain grounded and ethical. This practice helps in managing power dynamics effectively, fostering a culture of trust and continuous improvement.

As the general saying goes - "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely", contrary to this, as a leader it's very important to keep yourself calm and show the right character in your actions and the communication. This needs practice of regular self-reflection on assessing your integrity. Nothing wrong in seeking guidance if there is a deviation on power dynamics alignment. Even if you lose an argument or fail to impress with your ideas, keeping integrity at first place will make you successful over a period of time.

One additional concept is to practice vulnerability as a leader. Sharing personal challenges or admitting mistakes demonstrates authenticity and humility. For example, openly discussing a project setback and how you learned from it can humanize your leadership style. This approach fosters trust and reduces perceived power imbalances, as team members see you as approachable and willing to learn alongside them. Vulnerability builds stronger connections and encourages a culture where honesty and growth are valued over maintaining a facade of perfection.

Let's suppose as a #leader in your role you need to assign a high-profile project. The first thing you do ia analyze strength & weaknesses of your team members. After careful consideration and objective evaluation of each person's skills, you choose the most suitable candidate, explaining your rationale transparently to the team. You empower the selected individual by giving them the authority to make key decisions while ensuring they know they can seek guidance if needed. Throughout the project, you maintain open communication, and address any conflicts fairly. #Leadership
