one of the challenges in discovering the ideal career path is that many clients struggle to differentiate between their core skills, passions, and interests. The career counselor's role is to help them understand the differences between these concepts and to use various tools and methods, such as assessment tests, to identify them.

One of the biggest challenges in assessing values is disentangling authentic values from conditioned programming. 1. "Values" that are based in moving away from some fear or 2. items that were installed in you as something you "should" value by others should both be excluded. Discerning when those two things are at play (as well as being able to release the fear and think clearly) requires pretty significant deconditioning work. I've found 3-6 months with my clients is a minimum - and that's assuming you have an efficient system and skilled supervision.

Get clear on your talents, passion, career drivers and values. Once these are clear you will have the basis for understanding what your career and route growth can look like. Once you know this start to plan the incremental steps to achieve this growth and who or what you need to succeed! Anything that does not align with this then can need not be a focus.

Volunteering, shadowing working professionals, attending conferences, or even diving down a YouTube/podcast rabbit hole can all be great ways to test out a new career path.

Discovering your ideal career path can be a journey of self-discovery, exploration, and experimentation. You need to focus on what activities do you enjoy doing in your free time? What topics do you find most interesting? What are your skills and talents? How can you apply them to a career? After identifying, create a roadmap for your career journey, including short-term and long-term objectives, research careers related to your passions and interests. Look into job descriptions, salary ranges, and growth opportunities.

Tools like skill assessments, feedback from peers, and reflecting on past successes can help you recognize your unique abilities. Once you have a clear understanding of your skills, match them with potential career options that align with your passions and values.

Playing to your strengths is absolutely key so that work doesn’t feel like ‘hard work’! It’s important to differentiate between those strengths that you enjoy using & those that you have become good at (due to training & experience) but don’t enjoy using.

Often we limit our perspective on what else we could do by restricting our thinking to job titles or roles we know about. By starting off thinking about your core values and interests that underpin all that you do and what motivates you, you might broaden your horizons to different possibilities. AI can then use useful in suggesting roles or careers that use these skills/values that you might not previously thought of, or be encouraged to try something completely different that might not on the face of it look logical, but you know taps into your core values.
