In my experience it’s always best to start with the end in mind. Ask the question - what is your Elearning course looking to solve for in the business? And why is this important now? If you were to achieve this, what does good look like. Once you have established this and agreed with stakeholders. Consult with the team about the key performance indicators (KPIs) and how you will measure this. Once you have established this you can concentrate on the course build, instructional design and experience.

Whilst it’s important to track LMS data which can provide a lot of intelligence. It’s also worth consider using data lakes to provide further insights. The benefit of this is you can start to map learning data with other business metric data for example. Some organisations also use Learning Record Stores as an another method to view data insights. It all very much depends on the use case and requirements.

This can also build on experiences either in classroom settings or Elearning as a point to reflect post the event or during.
