One thing that i found is importing is to know all kind of alarms especially with the once that related to shutdown the engine You need to know all the parameters and when these parameters become critical And contact the shift engineer and the engine room operator

One thing that i found very important is to communicate with your engine operator cause he will be your eye in the engine room if you are control room operator You have to communicate with him quickly about alarm and any case of failure
