There are various ways to learn basics of research. You can volunteer with your seniors in their research work and you learn how they did. Moreover, there are various online and free courses that one can start and learn.

To get started for enhancing your social work with strong research skills: 1. Volunteer with the mentality of a boss --> treat it like an investment, and get the maximum information hus your side. 2. Ask for the boss's perks: do's: how much time did you invest in your work as a boss/owner? don't: when is my promotion? Let the experience be a guide and learn to self-manage. Reward yourself and share in your experiences! 3. Attribute the application of a day's work to a year --> every step matters! You are part of a big picture, your work matters!

If you find they come from a certain discipline like psychology, try including a public health or social work perspective. Do your literature/market survey: One of the underlooked aspects of research is not keeping up with the latest developments. Take 20 - 30 minutes each day to read articles, papers, reports, and magazines, or listen to expert opinions on the latest developments and the outlook for the future. 3. Master fundamentals: Understanding and solving a problem in research requires a good understanding of fundamental knowledge in your research area. Complex problems often are solved using basic science.

Data analysis is an extensive source depending on which type of dafa you want to analyse. There are systems in place for both quantitative and qualitative analysis, you should aim to discover which is which. It is also very helpful to read instructional books on the method you’re planning on using, understanding well it’s ontological and epistemological backgrounds.

Data analysis is sensitive to the type of data you have, the structure of your data, and your research questions. There are many ways to analyse the same data, but theres always the best way. Know why your using a specific analysis tool, its strengths, limitations, and its use in current literature. Always stay up-to-date with tools being used in the literature and understand why its the best tool for analyzing your specific data.

EBP is the best way to ensure your research and analyses will be meaningful contributions to the field. This requires a lot of reading and parsing through the literature in your field and also in associated fields.

It’s important to help the people you associate in the community are aware of the pros and cons in any research study(retrospective or prospective) design. Also the knowledge imparted is valuable and needs to be decimated to communities that are remotely placed and underserved.

In addition to attending conferences, workshops etc, be keen to leverage your network on LinkedIn. By connecting with the other researchers, you can collaborate to work on projects you both are interested in. This will equally benefit your career while building your research skills.

Here is something I agree to disagree as my opinion and experience attending conferences has not always translated into something tangible in my research path. Although there may be various reasons and sometimes every work has its limitations and collaboration may not be ideal.

Research skills could take your social work game to the next level. You can utilise your literature search skills to conduct an environmental scan to explore the work that was done and where the gaps are. Based on those findings you can devise your game plan using your knowledge of research methods. You can discuss your suggested approach with a few end users (persons with lived experience) to get their opinions on what will work and needs to change then you can fine tune and implement that plan

Freelance research is what I have continued to do and that gives me some comfort. The passion to do research is really that fulfilling to me in my life and hopefully continue to contribute in all possible ways.

First identify the community needs, affirm that the research will benefit these needs.Find a new demanding topic/need. Identify the stakeholders; keep them informed/involved in the process use Stakeholder Matrix [influences& interest]. Understand community values, standards and follow them carefuly &respectfully.Especially during data collection & analysis. Remember formal consent and consent form [in writing if possible]. Seek help from those who complement [what you lack] skills. Engage diverse members while insuring safety, respect and confidentiality. Research up to date, (EBP) data. Avoid data collection & analysis bias, mistakes. Listen, be open-minded, be patient, respectful. First draft is not final, adapt/change with time&new data.
