In today's world of societal marketing, doing the right thing will give you competitive advantage. If your brand is the personality of your business then CSR has to be it's heart. The emphasis is on "responsibility". The thinking and actions for CSR need to be grounded on a structural and cultural ability of the organisation to "respond" to needs with every decision making and every action. Therefore, the executives are, by default , the natural "builders" and "developers" of the skills and opportunities for producing the responsive and responsible entity.

There is no more powerful tool than consistency: if a company wants to take steps forward in CSR, it must promote a model of governance where employees are involved in thinking about the company's CSR strategy. If CSR is about voluntariness, sustainability, stakeholder dialogue and transparency, it should start internally, involving the employees. This is not about an assembly regime, but it is about establishing real participating mechanisms.

Employees must understand the concept of the social responsibility associated with business and profits and for that the employer must sensitize them. Simply taking the CSR activities as one of other regular tasks will not do. Along with the regular sensitization, employees should be given a chance to meet the beneficiaries of their CSR program.
