Here's how you can establish rapport with the interviewer.

I have created this tendency to always research my interviewers before the interview, at least 48 hours before. It gives me enough time to review and know their background, how long they have been with the company, and what their recent accomplishments are. During the interview, I speak and answer their questions based on what I have found about them in my research. This keeps them engaged and connected and know that I have an interest in their work/portfolio. e.g I will ask something like - "I see that you have been in the company for 5yrs, and was nominated and awarded best performer 3x. How were you able to achieve that and what are you going different that I can emulate?"

I think it's important that, in addition to the usual visits to websites and news research about what the company does or has been doing, you should also make a physical visit to the location. Observe the environment, what people do, and how they dress. In some cases, when possible, I suggest that the candidate even visit the cafeteria or dining area, have a meal there, and imagine themselves in that environment. Would you really like to be there every day?

In addition to non-verbal communication, our personal image also communicates. I think it is important for the candidate to dress according to the company's culture and to present themselves, above all, clean, with a shaved beard, trimmed nails, and brushed teeth. It may seem trivial, but what interviewer will enjoy talking to someone who smells bad?!

In the majority of interviews, people tend to be thinking about what they will say next. Active listening assures you will fully understand the question before you open your mouth to reply. It shows that you are truly engaged in what they have to say, and that you understand what is being asked of you BEFORE you blurt out an answer.

You can not play down the ability to listen and listen attentively. And possibly, get down some important points that more connect to your interest so that when responding to the discussion, your interviewer(s) can have confidence in your ability to listen and at the same time be able to digest the information. This will help you not to be too forgetful during your response

I believe if you've earned yourself an interview, the interviewer will give you the benefit of the doubt that you can most likely do the job. Now it's about connecting on a human level. Being relatable and sharing brief and appropriate anecdotes about your personal experiences is what really earns you the job. Use examples from your past to answer the questions being asked of you whenever possible.

If you're not enthusiastic when you're interviewing for a job you want, what makes someone believe you'll ever be enthusiastic about the job if you get it? Demonstrate your passion for this type of work. Use examples from your past to demonstrate your knowledge and experience. Let them know how and why you're the best choice for the job. Ask them for the job. "When do I start?". It's amazing how many people don't ask for the order when things are wrapping up. Doing so won't necessarily lock in the position, but it should at least move you up a notch or two.

Personality counts a lot, it shows how you can relate and get along with people, your inner mood will dictate your outside appearance and facial expression at any time in your life. Let your face and actions speak for you, let them know that you are in control of your life and not your mood, and try at all times not to let your state of mind dictate how you relate to the people around you

Asking thoughtful questions DOES NOT - repeat - NOT - include how much money it pays or how much PTO you get. Do, on the other hand, ask what would constitute a successful first 6 months or year, why they have lasted at the company, what do they like about working there, where do they expect to be in the next few years...

For the sake of clarity, some questions need to be asked but be sure you ask relevant and related questions when its time for that. Sometimes you may ask the most dumbest question, but that must be in a logical manner, not to show your emptiness of the brain. It is during this period your interviewer(s) will get to know your personalities

To establish rapport with the interviewer, from the opportunities that my headhunter/s present, I strategically select opportunities that align with my personal values, culture, vision, and mission. I rigorously research the company’s background, including the profiles of its executive leaders, to ensure a strong alignment. This preparation allows me to engage in meaningful conversations during the interview, as we share a common ground in terms of purpose and values. Establishing this "mutual alignment" is crucial, as it not only facilitates a “natural rapport” but also underscores the importance of a shared vision and culture in driving mutual success.
