Which means they may come across as unprofessional, but actually they are working really hard to be there.

I have an issue with this in that networking is about relationships and authenticity, so being yourself is essential. If trying to appear confident through posture, a forced smile or a strong handshake that doesn’t come naturally, you can end up feeling awkward and appear uncomfortable. If networking is uncomfortable or intimidating, focus on familiarity in the room and use friendly faces to provide introductions so that you maintain a more relaxed demeanour.

A lot of people are to much focussing on whats going on around them and neglect to focus on the person in front of them. By doing that they show ignorance and often miss a great opportunity that might stand in front of them

Often a networking event includes food and drink. Don't overload yourself whilst you're moving about the room - always have a (clean!) hand free to be able to shake hands, share a business card, or write down contact details.
