The very first thing a Project Manager needs to understand is the possible factors that might lead to conflicts between project goals and CSR objectives. Invariably, these situations arise when the project team is doing everything right to meet the project objectives, but they don't have full clarity about the goal or purpose behind the project, and how the project is aligned with the broader CSR objectives. I have seen mismatch & contradictions in identification of project participants or geography, implementation methodology (e.g. doing a community construction work where local inhabitants are employed vs hiring an outsourced external team to get the job done). It is therefore critical to first understand the CSR policies and philosophy.
