Here's how you can navigate failure and setbacks when communicating with vocal coaching clients.

As quoted by Carl jung , know all your theories master all your skills but once you touch another human become a human only ! Empathy is corner stone of every connection. Building empathy for a client once they are facing a situation is important to make them feel safe and secure. If as a coach you fail to validate their feelings and emotions you can not create a psychologically safe space and create an impact that should make them comfortable. Empathy in coaching revolves around effective listening and understanding their emotions.

I personally never consider anything a failure if they're still taking coaching/lessons. What we do in our coaching is learn and practically apply new concepts. Setbacks are just an opportunity to grow with an even greater focus. There is so much room to educate within voice, I find it helpful when a student or client has SPECIFIC needs we can focus on and "areas of opportunity". I literally ask my students to bring me their mistakes and hard places because that's what I'm here for! So, then they feel comfortable being vulnerable in our sessions. And I love when my students run into a problem and realize that they can actually identify it themselves and begin to have an idea about how to approach it. Then I know we're on the right path!

In my coaching, the individual personality and uniqueness of vocal character should never be lost. I focus on consistent, building exercises, vocal agility and ability, breathing, relaxation, ear training and small triumphs followed by more triumphs. Steady, patient and always empathetic encouragement. You are the only you!

Always warm up your voice prior to singing, by starting somewhere in midrange and going up the musical scale. Just use "lah" and after going up as high as possible, go back and go down as far as possible. Remember, the highest notes may require you to shift your voice production to an upper region of your throat. Continue to warm up until you have reached your capacity of notes reached, both bass and treble. Don't forget your support of air from the lower part of your body to not strain your throat.

When helping vocal coaching clients, guide them to see setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than failures. Encourage them to stay positive and keep practicing, emphasizing that progress takes time and effort. By fostering resilience and a growth mindset, you can empower them to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

Nunca tengas prisa. Los objetivos realistas no se dan en el corto plazo en la formación y mejora de nuestras aptitudes vocales. Es importante que nos concentremos en pequeños hitos y que sean factibles. Así, su consecución en el corto plazo, nos da un impulso emocional positivo para seguir avanzando y mejorar. No hay nada mejor que ver resultados en un proceso de aprendizaje. Por eso, al trabajar con alumnos y clientes, nunca empiezo por temas complejos. Ataco aquello que sé que mis alumnos pueden acometer y concluir con éxito. Les doy un refuerzo positivo que ellos pueden comprobar. Y no solo eso; procuro que ellos se sientan capaces, cómodos y motivados. Con pequeños pasos se avanza. Con grandes pasos corres el riesgo de frustrarte.

A vocal coach must be able to support the client in building a strong set of realistic goals . This can be done by ecology check and understanding with the client the importance of the goals . A strong benefit of setting realistic goals is also that they can be achieved faster so the smallest of sets along the way can be accomplished faster and in turn celebrated to motivate towards the bigger goals . This ensures great momentum and confidence in the client too . Hence always go through a check of what is the goal the client is aiming too and how realistically it can be accomplished for them

It's good to have an overall goal and help clients understand that it's the small steps they take everyday with their vocal training that will get them there.

What I found most helpful for my clients, is not to start with the voice itself but with mindset. Many vocal issues actually don't have their origin in your instrument (that's what I call the voice) but in what you think of it. And what you think of "the voice you'll never have". Of course a tenor will never become a bass. But instead of talking my customers out of that, I'm giving them a feeling for what they really can achieve. And most are stunned, what's possible with their instrument. "Realistic Goals" sounds for so many like "cut your dreams". But in my experience, it's the opposite. Once you realize what is possible, you start working to get there.

Our NLP presuppositions always state there is no failure its feedback always ! The word failure should always be reframed in vocal coaching to feedback . Support the client learn from this failure the takeaways the understanding what could be done differently what could be done better what more can try do what could they avoid in future what is the best part of this failure etc such coaching questions can help them reframe this and make it a cornerstone of success

In my experience asking the client these 5 questions helps shift the perspective from focusing on the failure, and moving it towards growth and learning. 1. What about the situation or the outcome is disturbing you? 2. What could you have done differently? 3. What do you learn about yourself from the outcome? 4. How can you use this as a learning going forward? 5. What’s the one thing you can do now to overcome this challenge? Could this have been avoided? Wha

Failure is part of learning. I use fun exercises to get people's voices started so everything feels more like a game rather than a serious lesson. You get the most out of people if they can laugh with you and at themselves.

Okay: Your part 3 is my part 1. What I found out over the years, is that 80 percent (if not more) are mindset and just 20 are the actual voice (if not less). So failure practically means there's still some obstacle in your thoughts. And what you experience as failure simply is the way of your subconscious to point out where there's work to do. Actually my clients find out themselves. My job as a coach is to simply guide them where to look.

No entertainment of using the word Failure! Challenge, learnt experience, always moving forward in improvement. Analyse what they consider was happening with their delivery, performance, and then building up the confidence from there. Its a positive experience!

I don't like the word setback as it means (for me) progression stops - if only for a moment. But instead I inspire my clients to talk of it like "so you just found a way it doesn't work out." And then we have to find out if it's about the way or is there a personal thing? I can give them advice what I experienced at a similar step in my over 33 years professional life. And soon we'll know if perhaps the way is right but the tool needs changing or the tool's right and we have to turn left or right and so change the path.

A partir de aquí, como mentor, intento guiar y aconsejar de forma personalizada para que los avanzar sean más efectivos. Dar las mejores indicaciones de forma específica a cada alumno, va a potenciar su aprendizaje. El mejor feedback, es personalizar el consejo.

Who on earth doesn’t like to be celebrated! And what happy chemicals does that boost up for one ! Celebrating along the way the tiniest of baby steps - remember as a child how your parents celebrate each first steps you take and clap and cheer for you and the immense pleasure a baby feels and keeps on walking no matter how many times it falls - that’s the same celebration you need to apply for a client every lil step is taking them to wards their goal hence celebrating and acknowledging from a coach mentor will always boost confidence raise the morale and make them unstoppable

As a coach I'm not just giving my knowledge, but I'm learning from mentors and coaches myself. So one of the most recent trainings I attended was about acquisition skills. And at the beginning of every group live call the coaches ask us participants to tell about our most recent success. The majority doesn't say a word other than perhaps "Nothing to tell. Didn't have any great things last week". But that's when I unmute and tell them the same I tell my clients: Success isn't always the big things. Try not to look only for the extraordinary - celebrate anything that makes you grow instead. And you'll experience more happiness and fulfillment than you'd have ever hoped for.

"Eres capaz de hacerlo" Es lo que llamamos el refuerzo positivo. Trabajar duro para que se cumplan objetivos a corto plazo y que el alumno se dé cuenta de ello. Si conseguimos eso colaboramos positivamente a la motivación. La energía se mantiene y crece la implicación. Para mí es importante que la práctica diaria se implemente en el aprendizaje, ya que mantiene el nivel aprendido y la confianza en los nuevos conceptos que vamos a implementar. Cuando el alumno fracasa en una tarea o aprendizaje, basta con recordarle lo que ha conseguido hasta la fecha y que las curvas de aprendizaje no son las mismas para todos. Hay que motivar y animar al alumno con nuevos y perspicaces consejos específicos para ellos. El fracaso es dejar de intentarlo.

As a transformational leader and Coach it is first important to determine whether the individual has a fixedmindset or a growth mindset. Thus will help the Coach understand who is their target client and identify his/her coaching ability to influence or become a gamechanger for their target client. A person's mindset sets the foundation for change .
