Here's how you can network and build connections as a peer support professional in your industry.

As a past Pioneer in the arena of Online Support Groups for mental health, I created a full website that included a private forum for peer support in addition to an information portal that interacted with other prominent websites. This was in the early 2000s when the international Society Mental Health Online was up and running. I was able to interact, grow, and learn from folks like Dr. Grohol (Psych Central) and several others. Fast forward to the present moment and I am an avid believer in online peer support. Safe place to share learn and gain ideas, in my opinion, is ideal for peak professional and personal resilience.

How invaluable is it when we can break out of our online Telehealth world into the outside reality of meeting professionals that are like-minded in person over coffee - over lunch - whatever it is we choose to do. How many of us may wish we had a great mentor to help us along the way? Or, how many of us would like to be a mentor to somebody? There's something to be said for a higher purpose than just working be it employee manager or whatever it is we do for our profession. Would a lofty goal it would be to help develop up and coming professionals in our fields. I personally thoroughly enjoy working with students in the Mental Health and Addictions field.

My life experience has been when I volunteered it led to increased joy and happiness. Not only that, the idea of being in a group of like-minded peers can decrease feelings of loneliness and isolation. When one participates in a peer-support group it provides a strong spirit of volunteerism, simply by sharing a word of encouragement. I favor online peer support as their are plenty to be found! Facebook has private groups as well. If we were to simply search for the support group we would like, there are several credible sites. With this being said, caution and research is of the essence to ensure a quality experience. I personally love being in peer support groups for my field of Psychology and Mental Health.

I love this concept and believe in it wholeheartedly. Being in the field of mental health and well-being I personally have found the beauty and true unspeakable joy of how it feels to help others. Even something such as paying for the customer's order behind me at Dunkin'. ***🌞 Try writing a sweet note on their receipt! That happened to me once and it really made my day. Why not have a special forum topic on challenging each other to commit to volunteer? Multiple subjects and topics and groups that come together and share each other's adventures.
