Actively listen, stay informed through colleagues and data, but never hesitate to share your perspective based on your knowledge

Networking can be a great tools to connect with people who can offer you opportunities to work for them. Also when it comes to interns, all you need to do is make time to chat with someone who is working in the same field so you can get the idea of what type of job they are working for and what offers do they give you. Always manage your time. It allows you to use your connections to keep in touch. It’s okay to connect with the strangers, they will not bite you nor ignore you. Boost yourself some confidence to start your conversation with someone working in the field.

Networking can mean more than just gathering a list of people like we do on Linkedin. By being honest and forthright with people you work with you gain respect by first listening to what people are concerned about regardless of what industry they may be in. Seeking a commonality in any career will help you later in business relationships with them. For example, because I have a varied background and interests in my personal life, I understand more when someone I am helping has a specific situation in their business that I can relate to. Could be where you work now might have a solution for them, or you may know of someone you have networked with that might be a lead for them. Makes you a valuable person to network with.

One thing I've found helpful is to always at the end of each day is to recap,reflect back on your do's and don't to better understand on how you can better do and handle any task at hand but also leave room for the unexpected that could come up at any given time. Having a pocket journal or note pad will accomplish the task for note taking.

1) follow a simple flowchart for the work at hand...this doubles up as your TnA...get to work a little earlier than the official office timings and review your charts first up, repeat the same in the evenings before closing and make notes of the ToDo list for the next morning..this always worked very well for me!

It's so simple, to keep involve your immediate Boss is an ideal solurion to overcome all system, working environment, human beings, client's requirement & situational related challenges. One of the best and sometimes only way for an intern to learn quickly is to walk the shop floor, walk to other competitors.. Look at their product selection, observe their colorways, see how each collection is being presented, compare product offerings and quality with the retail pricing and brand value. Hard work on the ground but so beneficial and that's how most of us learn.. And not just theorise learnings. One of the failures of many merchandisers is to plan in isolation not knowing what's beyond your well or pond. Cushy job this ain't but so interesting and rewarding and satisfying especially when you find your products selling!

Some things I've found helpful in a merchandising role is to take before and after photos even if you're not asked to, helps to cover you if there are any issues or queries. Invest in a good calender app to keep a record of what tasks or suppliers product you need to do for the day and take lots of notes if there are any issues or things that you need to let management know about. Communication and relationships are key in this role talk to the team on the floor and get to know them so you can work together effectively to achieve the weekly goals.
