If you are a natural organiser you could also create events and make them your own. This is something I've had experience in and it raises your profile and that of the people that you collaborate with. The attendees are often keen to connect with the organiser and the team too get the most out of the event and consequently you will grow a positive new branch to your network.

Most of the people you need, relax at a game, a resort, or one activity or the other. You can meet them there. It gives you a platform where you can resonate with them.
