I could well be in a minority here but happy to be proved wrong. My view has always been that you don’t get into working in education if money is your motivator. You choose education because you passionately believe in the right of every child and young person to be provided with the right environment, opportunities and support to enable them to realise their unique potential. Obviously we all have bills to pay though the real reward - for me at least - is being a contributing factor to a young person’s success.

You should broaden your market research and findings. If you want to be paid more, no matter the average salaries in your particular field for your particular skill set, you have to be willing to demonstrate what value you can add to your organization (more than what value you have already added). In one line, your salary expectations should be based on your future potential more than your current performance, and you must reach that potential at all times to retain your credibility.

Market research is super important to ensure you are not asking for less than what the asking price is. But also, focusing on what you bring to the organisation is important. If you have higher skills, do not be shy about asking for more than the market price. After all, you worked hard to attain that skill. So, use it to grow your financial value too.

In such organisations, there are pre defined KRA's which will help increase one's salary based on their roles. Elsewhere there is time bound fixed increments. Irrespective of the type of organisation, educationists nurture the potential in students and contribute to the greater good of society. Teaching embodies the qualities of a noble profession and is probably amongst one the sectors where money is important but not the sole criteria for professional growth.
