Just like you should tailor your resume, you should also tailor your interview responses to the target position. You may be thinking, "well duh." BUT a lot of people fail to do this correctly. Read the job description closely...and then read it again! And then read between the lines. what are the key skills, qualifications, and experiences required for the job? Highlight these requirements and use them as a guide to select which of your experiences to emphasize. Choose examples from your temporary and contract work that best match the skills and responsibilities listed in the job description. Shorter-term contract roles can be valuable in that they teach adaptability. If someone has been successful in contract/temporary roles for a few years I know I can most likely toss them into any situation and they will be successful. The flip side, however, is TOO MUCH temp work. That may lead people to think you're not employable on a longer-term basis. You'll get bored or that you really don't have the mindset to apply yourself for a long-term role. I've found it to be a fine line.

Be able to present the reasons for accepting short-term contract roles as opposed to longer-term "career" opportunities. This also means having a valid reasoning for employment gaps. There are definitely times where temp work makes sense. Over time, however, it may end up being an obstacle in finding that long-term role.
