Changes in technology happen quickly and drive the need for learning. In addition to IT Consulting Firms, the colleges and universities need to focus on this learning curve. I was well advanced and entrenched in the IT field before I got my 4-year college degree. The degree helped me get promoted in management, but the early consulting firm courses helped me get moving in IT. Also, I found Gartner Group and Metagroup conferences very helpful in learning new techniques and finding out which direction IT was taking. The IT Consulting Firms and Gartner Group need to help us with the TOBE Architecture we need to move to and help us fill the gaps identified between the ASIS Architecture and TOBE Architecture.

I’m not convinced there is a skill gap. What I believe, and have experienced, is that there is a gap in where companies search for candidates and within the down-select process. Expanding the candidate search diversity focused job boards exposes companies to a broader candidate pool.
