How can Facility Management (FM) professionals maintain their passion for their work?

Reconnecting with your initial reasons for choosing FM can reignite your passion. Did you enjoy the problem-solving aspect? Were you drawn to the variety and challenges the field offers? Reminding yourself of your initial motivations can be a powerful motivator & Consider how your FM career aligns with your personal goals. Does it allow you to develop desired skills? Does it provide financial stability or work-life balance that supports your aspirations and Identify your core values (e.g., efficiency, sustainability, safety). Seek opportunities within FM that allow you to uphold these values through your work. This creates a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

I chose FM as my profession because of the important work the FM portfolio encompasses. My goals and values are aligned with the organization for which I work. They echo the desire to ensure our constituents experience a fair and equitable relationship with our organization. My contribution to the success of my organization is secured by affording me the privilege to work to ensure our departmental policies and procedures are relevant, fair, efficient and easily navigated by all. I view my role as evolving and fluid. Reviewing and developing departmental and cross functional policy design that allows for reflection, input, data analysis, collaboration and updating in a thoughtful and equitable fashion are pivotal outcomes for my role.

I have always personally found this difficult. In this field there are so many things going on at once that is is not uncommon to wake up in the middle of the night with an idea. Just because you are not physically on-site doesn't mean you're not "working ".
