In my experience, it’s good to capture the business or management goals and needs in a roadmap ( technology or business roadmap). 1. This allows to capture and translate business goals and needs to current, and future states, Technology teams are thinking. 2. This helps demonstrate and prioritize areas of project and or technology uplift to assist the business in the short term and long term. 3. This drives financial planning and investment required for the business with agility in mind. 4. Explore ‘ always on’ where configuration is possible to achieve technology advantage to business goals at speed. This would require upfront Architectural and design considerations.

I think because humans are visual creatures, it is better to have network diagrams to communicate with management and describe the current and future situation

In order to communicate effectively, jargons and technical explanation should be avoided. Easy explanation with practical examples can help in communicating with management

Focus should be on benefits to the end user, reduced costs of delivering the product, automating efforts to reduce stress on bottlenecks or repetitive actions. Management talks about P&L. Think about how you can affect the organization (or team’s) profits, or minimizing the economic losses.

Basic level of knowledge regarding technology used by the organisation can be shared with management or Non-technical people’s so that atleast at some point network attacks or some unexpected things can be avoided, For example how to deal with phishing mails and all. Awareness about the Internet,how bad it can be.

I have seen many projects fail due to 'over-collaboration'. You don't want a project that was 'built by committee'. Business should be driven by those that understand business, and tech should be driven by people that understand tech. Where those perspectives converge is where care must be taken to ensure that the waters aren't muddied by too much input from those unfamiliar with the nuts and bolts. I take input on projects and development vectors from Users, then I and my teams research and develop 'good', 'better' and 'best' solutions. Then we take those back to the collab group. This approach allows us to vet the options for security, data flow, functionality, and relevance before the Users start to look at how slick the GUI is.

There is no collaboration and cooperation if it didn't start with planning on a project together (management and network administration) , and through the other processes together until there is a feedback and problem resolved together. collaboration and cooperation is a teamwork not individual work.

Don't forget that people in management usually have more experience managing projects and products than you do. Maybe projects of a completely different nature than the projects you have to manage, but believe me, they definitely know what a delay or mistake means for a project or product. Collaborating with them on the same level means you benefit from their experience, which is always useful even if it relates to other areas

From my experience this is very important in terms of the billing aspects, in regards to the client. As an engineer we tend not to read the fine print of the agreed SOW and agree to solve or built whichever request that comes to us via client without looking into if that is what the agreement of the client is with the management, so learning the from management is win-win situation for both the engineer/administrator and the management.

I have been managing Network teams since last 15 years . It's more important for the managers to understand Network Administrators, their capabilities and Strengths to effectively manage the day to day work. Its manager's responsibility to ensure that they create an environment to collaborate and build the right energy within the team. Define clear objectives and deliverables for the team, get their buy-in. This would help in achieving meaningful outputs and more productive results.

The problem is that network administration and other infrastructure related staff are mainly not before the management eyes (compared to veb development or data analytics dashboards etc.). So there 2 ways I see: 1. lead network admin or CTO or smbd else from executives forms visual reports with all work done and presents this to the management 2. make reports to the task management/reporting system or issue tracker system (Jira, Redmine, Excel etc whatever you use) sound more human readable for non-IT related management

Be calm and always use common sense. It's easy to get lost in a very complicated setup when trying to fix a problem or an incident. Think small to big, everything has a rationale and can be explained.
