This ensures that major decisions governing the Dapp / protocol are taken in a democratic manner. The smart contracts of the protocol typically have functions that can only be called from a governance contract ensuring that any major change requires the overall / community's votes as well. There are a lot of developments happening in this too - eventually with smart contract wallets, sponsored transactions we would be able to abstract away a lot of the complexities involved in web3. But ultimately, regulations would also play an important role in the adoption in the real world.
